KUALA LUMPUR– AirAsia (AK) has launched a limited-time Snap Sale for Australian travelers after Formula 1 confirmed that the rescheduled Bahrain Grand Prix will be staged at Sepang International Circuit near Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) in October.
The campaign offers discounted fares and holiday packages from Perth (PER), Melbourne (MEL), and Sydney (SYD), giving Australian motorsport fans a more accessible route to the relocated event.
The sale follows Formula 1 and the FIA’s decision to move the Bahrain Grand Prix to Malaysia because of ongoing security and logistical challenges in the Middle East.
Subject to final approval by the World Motor Sport Council, the race will be held as the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia at Sepang International Circuit from October 2 to 4, marking the venue’s return to the F1 calendar for the first time since 2017.
AirAsia Snap Sale Details
AirAsia introduced the promotional campaign shortly after the Formula 1 announcement, targeting travelers eager to attend the relocated race weekend.
The airline is offering one-way fares as well as bundled flight-and-hotel packages through the AirAsia MOVE platform.
From Perth, one-way fares start at $187, while six-day, five-night travel packages begin at $379 per guest.
Travelers departing from Melbourne can book flights from $384 one way or packages from $762, while Sydney passengers can secure fares from $313 and holiday packages from $672 per guest.
The promotion also includes baggage discounts of up to 35% for Perth travelers, 50% for Melbourne passengers, and 40% for those departing Sydney.
Eligible bookings must be completed by August 2, 2026, with travel available on selected dates extending into 2027, subject to fare availability and promotional conditions.
Bahrain GP Move Explained Today
Formula 1 reached the relocation agreement with the FIA and the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia after security concerns made it impractical to stage the race in its traditional venue.
The revised arrangement preserves a Grand Prix that otherwise would have been removed from the 2026 championship calendar.
The Bahrain event will retain its official title despite being held in Malaysia, becoming the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. It will take place between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix, while the remainder of the 2026 Formula 1 schedule remains unchanged.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said the agreement demonstrates the championship’s ability to adapt under challenging circumstances.
He also thanked the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia, along with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, for enabling the event to proceed.
Sepang Returns to Formula One
Sepang International Circuit first hosted Formula 1 in 1999 and remained a regular fixture until 2017, Travel Weekly reported.
The circuit has earned a reputation for its demanding layout, unpredictable tropical weather, and passionate fan base, making its return one of the most notable developments on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar.
The race also provides a tourism boost for Malaysia, with airlines, hotels, and travel operators expected to benefit from increased international demand.
Ticket sales for the event have not yet opened, and Formula 1 said further details regarding ticket availability will be announced in the coming weeks.
