DOHA- Qatar Airways (QR) has extended its twice-daily Airbus A380 operations between Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) for the Winter 2026 schedule. The revised plan keeps the superjumbo on the route through mid-January before reducing frequencies later in the season.
The schedule update strengthens capacity on one of the airline’s busiest long-haul routes while improving connections through Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH). London Heathrow Airport (LHR) also remains one of the world’s leading hubs for Airbus A380 operations during the winter season.
Qatar Airways Extends Twice Daily A380 Service to Heathrow
Qatar Airways has revised its Winter 2026 schedule to continue operating two daily Airbus A380 flights between Doha and London Heathrow beyond the northern summer season, Simple Flying reported.
Before the latest schedule update, the airline planned to reduce A380 operations from twice daily to one daily flight starting October 25, 2026, which marks the beginning of the IATA winter schedule. The updated timetable now keeps twice-daily Airbus A380 service in place through the middle of January 2027.
After mid-January, one of the two daily rotations will operate three times weekly, resulting in a total of 10 weekly Airbus A380 flights. Although this represents a reduction from the peak winter schedule, it still offers more A380 services than originally planned.
Earlier this year, Qatar Airways temporarily grounded its Airbus A380 fleet for nearly two months because of the conflict involving Iran. According to OAG schedule data, the aircraft returned to the Doha to Heathrow route on June 16 with one daily flight before increasing to twice-daily service on July 1.
The airline continues to schedule the Airbus A380 during its major arrival and departure banks at Doha. This timing allows passengers arriving from Asia Pacific, Africa, and other regions to connect efficiently onto flights to London.
Winter A380 Schedule
The planned Airbus A380 schedule for Winter 2026 includes two primary daily rotations.

Strong London Network During Winter
Between November 2026 and February 2027, Qatar Airways and its oneworld partner British Airways will collectively operate an average of 11 daily flights between Doha and London.
Depending on the day of the week, passengers will see between nine and 12 daily departures across London Heathrow and London Gatwick Airport (LGW). Saturdays are expected to record the highest frequency with up to 12 daily services.
The airlines’ schedules are coordinated to maximize connectivity. On several mornings, six departures from Doha to London leave within less than two hours after large numbers of inbound flights from Asia Pacific arrive in Qatar.
British Airways continues to complement Qatar Airways’ operations under their joint business partnership, adding additional capacity on the Heathrow route alongside Qatar Airways’ own flights.
London Heathrow Remains a Major Airbus A380 Hub
London Heathrow continues to be one of the world’s busiest airports for Airbus A380 operations during the winter season.
Between November 2026 and February 2027, six airlines plan scheduled Airbus A380 services from Heathrow:
- British Airways (BA)
- Emirates (EK)
- Etihad Airways (EY)
- Qantas (QF)
- Qatar Airways (QR)
- Singapore Airlines (SQ)
Together, these airlines are expected to operate an average of about 20 daily Airbus A380 departures from Heathrow throughout the winter schedule.
While overall A380 activity remains similar to last winter, individual airline strategies have changed significantly.
Qatar Airways plans approximately 72 percent more Airbus A380 flights than during Winter 2025, reflecting stronger demand and additional capacity on the Doha route.
British Airways, meanwhile, is reducing its Airbus A380 operations by about 14 percent as it continues refurbishing and reconfiguring the aircraft. The upgrades reduce seating capacity from 469 seats to 421 seats while increasing the proportion of premium cabins.
Heathrow and Istanbul Continue Passenger Competition
Passenger traffic rankings between Europe’s largest airports remain closely contested.
London Heathrow handled more passengers than Istanbul Airport (IST) during 2025. However, Air Service One data for the first five months of 2026 indicates Istanbul slightly surpassed Heathrow by passenger numbers, although Heathrow continued to lead in available seats and available seat miles because of its larger average aircraft size.
The latest Qatar Airways schedule expansion further reinforces Heathrow’s role as one of the airline’s most important long-haul destinations and one of the world’s largest Airbus A380 markets.
