FARNBOROUGH- The Bombardier Global 8000 business jet has set a new speed record on a flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Farnborough (FAB) in the United Kingdom, completing the city pair in 8 hours and 46 minutes.
The aircraft reached a top speed of Mach 0.93 despite unfavorable tailwinds on the transatlantic route.
The record run carried the jet to the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow for its first ever aerial display.
The Global 8000 is the fastest civil aircraft since the Concorde, with a top speed of Mach 0.95, an 8,000 nautical mile range, and the lowest cabin altitude in production business aviation at 2,691 feet.
New Speed Record on the Los Angeles to Farnborough Route
Bombardier announced that its flagship Global 8000 set the new record on the route between Los Angeles and Farnborough.
The aircraft covered the city pair in 8 hours and 46 minutes while reaching a top speed of Mach 0.93, overcoming unfavorable tailwinds during the flight.
According to Bombardier, the run was 2.2 percent faster than the previous record for the same city pair.
The result adds to the growing list of speed records earned by the Global 8000. It also builds on the industry-leading record tally of its predecessor, the Global 7500, which entered service in 2018.
The Global 8000 pairs high speed with long range. It carries a top speed of Mach 0.95 and a range of 8,000 nautical miles, which supports nonstop travel between more city pairs than competing business jets. The aircraft is powered by 2 General Electric Passport engines.
Passenger comfort is a core part of the design. The jet features a 4 zone cabin and the lowest cabin altitude in production business aviation at 2,691 feet, which helps reduce fatigue on long flights. Bombardier pairs this with what it calls a signature smooth ride and a luxurious cabin.
Access to More Airports
Beyond speed and range, the Global 8000 offers strong airport access. The manufacturer says the aircraft can reach up to 30% more airports than its nearest competitor because of its short-field landing performance.
That capability lets passengers fly closer to their final destinations and gives operators more flexibility when planning missions.
The combination of speed, range, and airport access forms the core of Bombardier’s pitch for the aircraft.

From Certification to Farnborough Debut
The Global 8000 entered service on December 8, 2025, at a delivery ceremony near Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) in Mississauga.
The type earned its Transport Canada certificate on November 5, 2025, followed by United States Federal Aviation Administration approval on December 19, 2025. The aircraft is the fastest civil jet to enter service since the Concorde retired in 2003.
The Farnborough record marks one of the newest milestones for the program since it began deliveries.
The speed run gave Bombardier a high-profile performance marker to time with the jet’s public debut in Europe.
Farnborough 2026 Displays
The Global 8000 is taking part in aerial displays across the week at the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow.
The flights let the company show the aircraft’s speed and handling to industry professionals, customers, and enthusiasts. Bombardier is also hosting visitors at Chalet C603 during the event.
