DELHI- IndiGo (6E), India’s largest domestic carrier, has introduced a new low-cost travel option aimed at passengers flying with only cabin baggage.
The airline said the move is designed to make air travel more affordable as it continues to refine its unbundled fare structure across its network.
The development also places IndiGo in direct alignment with broader industry trends, as Air India (AI), a key competitor, recently introduced a basic economy fare without complimentary meals for price-sensitive travellers.
IndiGo stated that the new fare category will provide a lower base price while still maintaining essential onboard services. The airline emphasized that the initiative supports its goal of building a more flexible and customer-centric fare portfolio.

IndiGo Airlines Lite Details
IndiGo has branded its new entry-level product as “IndiGo Lite,” targeting passengers who prefer to travel light and avoid additional service costs.
Under this fare, customers receive a lower base ticket price along with an auto-assigned seat at no extra charge. The airline also includes a cabin baggage allowance of up to 7 kg, aligning with standard carry-on limits in the industry.
The airline said the product is designed for travellers who only require essential services and want more control over what they pay for. IndiGo noted that the fare structure reflects changing customer preferences and growing demand for customized travel options.
The airline aims to strengthen its value segment while maintaining operational efficiency.

Booking And Rollout of IndiGo’s Lite Fare
IndiGo confirmed that the “IndiGo Lite” fare will be available for both domestic and select international routes, Live Mint reported.
Bookings will open on July 1 through the airline’s official website and mobile application. Travel under this fare category will become effective from July 15, giving passengers a short transition window before implementation.
The airline also clarified that seats under this fare will be auto-assigned without additional charges, ensuring simplified booking for passengers.
The structure is intended to streamline the booking process while offering a clear separation between bundled and unbundled services.
IndiGo expects strong uptake from price-sensitive travellers and frequent flyers who prefer minimal service add-ons.

Aviation Pricing Shift in India
The introduction of IndiGo Lite reflects a broader shift in India’s aviation pricing strategy, where carriers are increasingly moving toward modular fare structures.
Airlines are focusing on unbundling services such as meals, seat selection, and baggage to keep base fares competitive. This trend has gained momentum as passenger demand continues to grow in both domestic and short-haul international markets.
Recent regulatory adjustments, including a reduction in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices by ₹5 per litre, have also influenced airline pricing strategies. Industry observers suggest that such cost fluctuations may encourage further fare segmentation.
