HONG KONG– A violent robbery involving gold bars valued at approximately HK$7 million ($893,200) has triggered a major police investigation after an attack near Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).
The incident involved an arriving passenger who was ambushed shortly after landing from an international flight.
The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) confirmed that the case has been classified as a premeditated operation involving multiple suspects.
Seven individuals have since been arrested as authorities continue efforts to recover the stolen bullion and identify additional accomplices.

Hong Kong Airport Ambush Case
Police stated that the victim, a 36-year-old Hong Kong man, arrived from Indonesia carrying six gold bars on behalf of a mainland Chinese businessman. He proceeded to Airport Car Park 3 to collect his vehicle when the attack occurred.
Three masked assailants armed with blades allegedly confronted him and inflicted injuries to his thigh and arm. The attackers then seized a backpack containing the gold bars and escaped in a waiting vehicle.
Emergency services transported the victim to the hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. Authorities confirmed that his condition is now stable following medical care.

Police Investigation Progress Underway
HKPF officers received the emergency report at approximately 12:23 am on Thursday and immediately launched an investigation.
Within days, police detained seven suspects, including four men and three women aged between 20 and 39.
Authorities said the group includes individuals believed to have played different roles, including planning, execution, transportation, and logistical support. Police also noted that some suspects have triad-related backgrounds.
Investigators recovered the getaway vehicle and weapons used in the attack.
However, the stolen gold bars remain missing, and police suspect that some individuals may have fled to mainland China, Global Times reported.

Theft at Hong Kong Airport was Coordinated
Police emphasized that the robbery was not a random act but a coordinated and preplanned operation.
Investigators suspect an insider leak may have provided details about the victim’s arrival and movements within the airport area.
Authorities are working with mainland law enforcement agencies to track down remaining suspects and recover the stolen assets.
The case remains active, and further arrests have not been ruled out as the investigation continues.
The incident has raised concerns over targeted criminal activity linked to high-value transport operations at major international airports, particularly involving precious cargo carried by individuals rather than secured logistics channels.
