DALLAS— Flight attendants from American Airlines (AA) gathered to honor a fallen colleague as his remains were flown back to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) following a tragic incident overseas. The employee, Eric Fernando Gutierrez, was based at DFW and had been reported missing during a work-related trip to Medellín.
The repatriation journey began at Medellín (MDE) and continued to Miami International Airport (MIA), then to Dallas, where colleagues planned a terminal-side vigil. The emotional return marked the final leg of a journey that had deeply affected the airline’s workforce across multiple bases.
American Airlines Attendant Found Dead
Gutierrez arrived in Medellín on March 24, 2026, and later visited a nightclub in the El Poblado district with another crew member. At the end of the evening, he chose to remain with a group of individuals he had met, while his colleague returned to the hotel.
The following day, he did not report for his scheduled duty, prompting concern among fellow crew members. His absence triggered an immediate search effort, with friends and colleagues attempting to trace his movements.
Days later, local authorities confirmed that a body had been discovered between Jerico and Puente Iglesias. His father, who had traveled to Colombia to assist in the search, formally identified him.
Repatriation Flight Details
Gutierrez’s remains were transported on an American Airlines service from Medellín to Miami. From there, his coffin, draped in an airline flag, was transferred onto an Airbus A321 operating Flight AA3067 for the final journey to Dallas Fort Worth, PYOK reported.
At Miami International Airport, an honor guard composed of airline employees stood in silence as the coffin was loaded. The gesture reflected the strong sense of community among aviation professionals.
Upon arrival in Dallas, flight attendants organized a vigil at the terminal to pay tribute. The gathering served as a collective moment of remembrance and support for his family, friends, and colleagues.
