ADDIS ABABA— Ethiopian Airlines (ET) has confirmed it will resume direct passenger flights between Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) starting May 21, 2026. The route returns after a short suspension that began in February 2026.
The restored service reconnects a major African aviation hub with one of the busiest airports in the United States. Atlanta serves as a key gateway for travelers heading to the southeastern US, while Addis Ababa links passengers to an extensive African and global network.

Ethiopian Airlines Resuming Atlanta Flights
Ethiopian Airlines will relaunch the Addis Ababa–Atlanta route to meet growing demand across multiple travel segments. The airline expects strong interest from business travelers, tourists, and the African diaspora community.
The route had only been temporarily suspended, allowing the airline to adjust operations and network planning. Its return signals confidence in transatlantic demand and network recovery.
Passengers will benefit from direct connectivity, reducing travel time compared to indirect routes. The service also improves access to over 160 destinations served by Ethiopian Airlines across five continents.

Ethiopian Network Expansion Strategy
The reintroduction of Atlanta strengthens Ethiopian Airlines’ broader long-haul strategy. The carrier continues to expand its presence in North America, which remains a priority market.
Atlanta stands out as a major economic center with a large and diverse population. It also supports significant cultural and business ties with African nations.
Ethiopian Airlines uses Addis Ababa as a central hub to channel passengers efficiently across Africa. This hub-and-spoke model enables seamless onward connections to cities that lack direct international service.
The airline’s fleet, which includes Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 aircraft, supports these long-haul operations with improved efficiency and passenger comfort.

Passenger Benefits of Ethiopian’s Atlanta Expansion
Travelers on the resumed route will gain improved scheduling flexibility and reduced transit times. Direct flights eliminate the need for multiple stopovers, making journeys more convenient.
The service also enhances cargo capacity between Africa and the United States. This supports trade flows, including high-value and time-sensitive shipments.
Ethiopian Airlines continues to invest in customer experience through digital booking platforms and global support services. Tickets for the route are already available through its official channels and travel partners.
The airline remains a member of Star Alliance, enabling passengers to connect seamlessly with partner airlines. This adds further value for frequent flyers and international travelers.
