WASHINGTON— The United States military has confirmed that a KC-135 refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq during an ongoing regional military operation, prompting an immediate rescue mission for the crew.
US Central Command announced that the incident occurred during Operation Epic Fury, a military campaign currently underway in the Middle East. Authorities have not yet confirmed the condition of those on board or whether any casualties occurred.

US KC-135 Crash in Iraq
US Central Command stated that the KC-135 refueling aircraft was lost during an operational flight but emphasized that the crash was not caused by hostile fire.
Officials said the incident occurred while two aircraft were conducting mission activities related to Operation Epic Fury.
Early information suggests the aircraft may have been operating in close proximity, although authorities have not confirmed the exact circumstances.
The military said rescue teams were deployed immediately after the crash. Search and recovery operations remain active as personnel attempt to locate the aircraft crew and assess the situation on the ground.
Defense officials have not disclosed the number of personnel on board the tanker aircraft. KC-135 missions typically involve a small flight crew responsible for piloting and operating aerial refueling systems.

Ongoing Military Campaign in Iran
The crash comes during an expanding military campaign involving the United States and Israel targeting Iranian military infrastructure. The operation began on February 28 and has since triggered multiple military incidents across the region.
According to the Pentagon, at least seven US service members have died since the campaign began, while around 140 others have sustained injuries. Officials said eight of the wounded personnel remain in serious condition.
According to Al Jazeera, earlier in the conflict, three US fighter jets were lost in a separate incident involving friendly air defense systems. The aircraft involved were F-15E Strike Eagles that were mistakenly engaged during an active combat situation.
All six crew members aboard those aircraft successfully ejected and were later recovered safely. The incident highlighted the risks associated with complex multinational military operations.

Impact of the Rising Conflict
The broader conflict has resulted in significant casualties across several countries in the Middle East. Reports estimate that more than 1,300 people in Iran have been killed since the beginning of hostilities.
Additional casualties have been reported in Israel and neighboring Gulf states as missile attacks and retaliatory strikes expanded across the region. Military analysts say the situation remains volatile as operations continue.
The US administration has defended the military campaign as necessary for national security and regional stability. However, the operation has generated public debate in the United States, with several polls indicating mixed public support.
As rescue teams continue operations at the crash site in Iraq, US Central Command has indicated that more details will be released once investigators confirm the circumstances surrounding the KC-135 aircraft loss.
