CAIRO- EgyptAir (MS) will launch nonstop flights from Cairo International Airport (CAI) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in mid-2026. The airline has published schedules and confirmed aircraft deployment.
The new routes will expand EgyptAir’s North American footprint, adding its fifth and sixth destinations in the region and introducing its Airbus A350-900 on ultra-long-haul operations, OMAAT reported.
EgyptAir Expands U.S. Reach With Two Long-Haul Routes
EgyptAir will begin three weekly flights between Cairo (CAI) and Los Angeles (LAX) on May 23, 2026. Here’s a flight schedule:
- Flight MS983 will depart Cairo at 8:30 AM and arrive in Los Angeles at 1:20 PM.
- The return flight, MS984, will depart Los Angeles at 5:25 PM and arrive in Cairo at 5:10 PM the following day.
The 7,605-mile route is blocked at 14 hours 50 minutes westbound and 13 hours 45 minutes eastbound. Service will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
On June 21, 2026, EgyptAir will launch three weekly flights between Cairo (CAI) and Chicago (ORD). Here’s a flight schedule:
- Flight MS947 will depart Cairo at 12:50 AM and arrive in Chicago at 5:15 AM.
- The return flight, MS948, will depart Chicago at 10:30 AM and arrive in Cairo at 5:40 AM the next day.
The 6,148-mile route is scheduled at 12 hours 25 minutes westbound and 11 hours 10 minutes eastbound. Flights will operate on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
The Los Angeles route will become the longest in EgyptAir’s network.
Airbus A350-900 To Debut On U.S. Services
EgyptAir plans to operate both routes with its new Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The jet features 340 seats, including 30 business class seats and 310 economy class seats.
The A350 business class cabin includes reverse herringbone seats with sliding doors and upgraded in-flight technology. This configuration builds on the carrier’s existing widebody product while introducing enhanced privacy and updated interiors.
Deploying the A350 on these routes signals EgyptAir’s focus on modernizing its long-haul fleet and competing more effectively in the transatlantic and ultra-long-haul markets.
Strategic Fit Within North America Network
With Chicago and Los Angeles added, EgyptAir’s North American network will include six destinations: New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Washington (IAD), Toronto (YYZ), Chicago (ORD), and Los Angeles (LAX).
Chicago represents a strong strategic addition. O’Hare serves as a major hub for United Airlines (UA), a fellow Star Alliance member. The partnership allows for onward connectivity across the United States and improves feed potential for the Cairo route.
Los Angeles presents a different profile. While LAX is also a United hub, connectivity is more limited compared to United’s eastern hubs.
The route is approximately 2,000 miles longer than Cairo to New York, increasing operational complexity and cost. Demand between the U.S. West Coast and Africa is historically lower than flows from the East Coast and Canada.
At the same time, Los Angeles gains a nonstop link to Cairo, strengthening its global reach. The route also restores a historic connection, as EgyptAir previously served Los Angeles decades ago.
Competitive Landscape And Market Dynamics
Ultra-long-haul routes carry higher fuel, crew, and operational costs. Airlines must rely on strong premium demand, cargo revenue, and connecting traffic to maintain sustainable yields.
Chicago offers a large local market and Star Alliance feed. Los Angeles depends more heavily on connecting traffic and premium travelers. Gulf carriers already provide one-stop options between the U.S. West Coast and Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East, creating competitive pressure.
The success of the Los Angeles route will depend on traffic stimulation, corporate contracts, alliance connectivity, and EgyptAir’s ability to differentiate its nonstop product.
