DUBAI- Emirates and Marriott International have confirmed plans to open the world’s first Ritz-Carlton Lodge in Australia’s Wolgan Valley, marking a global brand milestone.
Set within a protected Blue Mountains conservancy, the all-inclusive luxury lodge is scheduled to open in mid-2026 and aims to elevate regional tourism in New South Wales.

A Landmark Luxury Lodge in the Blue Mountains
The project, officially named Emirates Wolgan Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Lodge, will feature 40 private lodges across a 7,000-acre conservation reserve in the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.
It represents the first Ritz-Carlton Lodge globally and introduces a new format for the luxury hospitality brand, focused on immersive nature-based travel.
Ritz-Carlton Lodges are purpose-built retreats designed to blend high-end hospitality with environmental responsibility. The Wolgan Valley property will occupy less than two percent of the total land area, ensuring preservation of the surrounding wilderness while offering guests privacy, space, and direct access to nature.

Emirates’ Long-Term Investment and Conservation Efforts
Emirates has invested AU$150 million in the Wolgan Valley property since acquiring it in 2006. Development has prioritised environmental stewardship and cultural preservation, including restoration of the original 1832 homestead and large-scale conservation programs.
More than one million native trees have been planted across the site to support biodiversity and restore indigenous habitats. Emirates is now committing an additional AU$50 million to transform the resort in collaboration with Marriott International, aligning the property with The Ritz-Carlton’s service standards and design philosophy.
Despite the temporary closure following the shutdown of Wolgan Valley Road in 2023, Emirates retained local staff to maintain the site, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the region.

Economic Impact and Community Engagement
The reopening of the lodge is expected to create close to 150 jobs, spanning hospitality, guiding, maintenance, and local supply chains. Emirates has maintained close ties with the Wolgan Valley community since the resort’s inception and plans to expand partnerships with regional producers and service providers.
Local suppliers are expected to benefit from increased demand for Australian produce and goods, supporting broader economic growth across the Lithgow and Blue Mountains regions.

Access and Arrival Experience
Guests will reach the lodge via a four-wheel drive journey along the Donkey Steps, designed as part of the rural adventure experience, or by helicopter.
Both options are intended to reinforce the sense of remoteness and connection to the landscape from the moment of arrival.

Nature-Driven Luxury and Signature Experiences
Each of the 40 lodges will include private pools and tailored amenities. Planned experiences include guided wildlife encounters, conservation-led activities, and a signature sleep-out experience in remote wilderness locations.
This overnight experience will feature outdoor dining, campfire relaxation, and uninterrupted views of the night sky, combining refined comfort with raw natural surroundings.
The main homestead will house a signature restaurant, lounge bar, wine room, and arrival spaces inspired by traditional Australian homestead design. Recreational facilities will include an outdoor pool, tennis courts, equestrian stables, a fitness centre, and The Ritz-Carlton Spa.
A dedicated naturalist hub, led by a resident expert, will curate educational and conservation-focused programs that highlight the ecological significance of the UNESCO-listed region.

Strengthening The Ritz-Carlton’s Presence in Australia
The Wolgan Valley lodge will complement The Ritz-Carlton’s existing Australian portfolio, which includes properties in Perth and Melbourne. Marriott International views the lodge as a key draw for its global loyalty base, particularly travellers seeking meaningful, place-based luxury experiences.
With regional New South Wales recording strong domestic and international visitor growth, the lodge is positioned to meet rising demand for premium eco-luxury travel while setting a new benchmark for sustainable hospitality.
