DUBLIN- Aer Lingus (EI) will introduce a new transatlantic route connecting Dublin (DUB) and Pittsburgh (PIT) as part of its 2026 network expansion. This marks the airline’s second long haul announcement for 2026, following the launch of its upcoming Raleigh–Durham (RDU) service.
The new route provides Pittsburgh with an additional year-round transatlantic option at a time when the market has limited international access.
According to OMAAT, the expansion reflects Aer Lingus’ strategy of targeting secondary US markets supported by strong demand and airport incentives.

Aer Lingus New Route to Pittsburgh
Aer Lingus (EI) will begin operating flights between Dublin and Pittsburgh on May 25, 2026. The service will run 4 times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Flight EI81 departs Dublin at 4:10 PM and arrives in Pittsburgh at 7:10 PM. Flight EI80 departs Pittsburgh at 8:40 PM and lands in Dublin at 8:40 AM the following day. The 3,444 mile route is blocked for 8 hours westbound and 7 hours eastbound.
The Airbus A321LR/XLR will operate the route, offering 184 seats consisting of 16 business class seats and 168 economy seats.
| Flight Number | Route | Departure Time | Arrival Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| EI81 | Dublin (DUB) to Pittsburgh (PIT) | 4:10PM | 7:10PM |
| EI80 | Pittsburgh (PIT) to Dublin (DUB) | 8:40PM | 8:40AM (+1 day) |
Aer Lingus operates several narrow-body transatlantic routes with this aircraft type, supporting efficient service to mid-sized US markets.
The airline’s recent review of its A321XLR business class product highlights the aircraft’s suitability for long-range operations.
Pittsburgh currently has limited transatlantic service. British Airways operates the only year-round route from London Heathrow (LHR), while Icelandair (FI) serves the market seasonally from Keflavik (KEF).
Aer Lingus’ entry establishes Pittsburgh’s second year-round transatlantic connection.
Pittsburgh International Airport has offered financial incentives to attract long-haul carriers, a factor that aligns with Aer Lingus’ interest in supported markets.
The new service enhances regional access to Europe and improves connectivity for both business and leisure passengers.

Aer Lingus’ US Network Footprint
Aer Lingus maintains an extensive presence in the United States. Current destinations include Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Cleveland (CLE), Denver (DEN), Hartford (BDL), Indianapolis (IND), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Minneapolis (MSP), New York (JFK), Nashville (BNA), Newark (EWR), Orlando (MCO), Philadelphia (PHL), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA), and Washington (IAD). Service to Raleigh–Durham (RDU) begins in April 2026.
The airline is part of the oneworld transatlantic joint venture with American Airlines (AA), British Airways (BA), Finnair (AY), and Iberia (IB).
Despite this membership, Aer Lingus often executes independent network planning that differs from the coordinated strategies of its partners.

Market Outlook
The Dublin–Pittsburgh service strengthens Aer Lingus’ focus on underserved transatlantic markets and supports economic growth in Western Pennsylvania.
The new route expands travel options for local passengers and enhances Dublin’s role as a connecting hub to Europe.
Aer Lingus will launch 4 weekly flights between Dublin and Pittsburgh beginning May 2026.
The route becomes Pittsburgh’s second year-round transatlantic link and reinforces Aer Lingus’ strategy of expanding into secondary US markets with growing demand.
