MADRID- Iberia (IB) will launch a daily service between Madrid and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) starting March 29, 2026. The new route adds to its existing double daily operation to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), strengthening the airline’s presence in New York.
The move gives travelers three daily options to the New York region while improving access to Manhattan through Newark. It expands capacity on the Madrid–New York corridor and supports rising demand between Spain and the United States.

Iberia Newark Flights with A321XLR
Iberia plans to boost its New York capacity by more than 350,000 seats during the 2026 summer season. This represents a 42 percent increase over 2025 and reflects continued growth in one of the busiest transatlantic markets.
Newark offers a strategic alternative for both business and leisure customers due to its proximity to Manhattan and its connectivity advantages.
With the addition of Newark, Iberia strengthens its position in a highly competitive corridor and enhances its multi-airport strategy across the New York metropolitan area. The new flights will operate daily as IB327 from Madrid to Newark and IB328 on the return, using the Airbus A321XLR.
Iberia will operate flights from Madrid to Newark as follows:
| Flight No. | Route | Days of Operation | Departure | Arrival |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IB327 | Madrid to Newark | Daily | 19:35 | 22:25 |
| IB328 | Newark to Madrid | Daily | 23:55 | 13:20 next day |
The schedule supports both transatlantic connections and point-to-point demand. The evening departures allow same-day European and U.S. connections within the wider network.

Growth Strategy Across the United States
Iberia currently serves ten destinations in the United States and will offer close to 2 million seats in 2025. Its winter schedule includes double daily flights to New York (JFK) and Miami (MIA), up to two daily services to Boston (BOS) and San Juan (SJU), and expanded year-round service to Washington (IAD).
The airline also flies daily to Chicago (ORD), and multiple weekly frequencies to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Orlando (MCO), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO) during the summer.
This network is reinforced through the North Atlantic joint business with American Airlines (AA), British Airways (BA), and Finnair (AY), providing coordinated schedules and access to over 400 destinations.

Flight Plan 2030 and New Long Haul Routes
The Newark launch aligns with Iberia’s Flight Plan 2030, an investment program focused on fleet renewal, digital services, and network expansion.
The airline intends to grow from 48 to 70 long-haul aircraft and add several new destinations.
Recent openings include Orlando (MCO) with four weekly flights. Upcoming additions include Recife (REC) on December 13, Fortaleza (FOR) on January 19, Monterrey (MTY) on June 2, and Toronto (YYZ) on June 13.
The new Newark service will use the Airbus A321XLR. This aircraft allows Iberia to serve long-haul markets with lower fuel consumption and improved operational flexibility.
It features the Airspace cabin, LED lighting, and two service classes designed to support both comfort and efficiency on transatlantic routes.

Newark Airport: World’s Best New Airport Terminal
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) last year received global recognition as Terminal A was named the world’s best new airport terminal by Skytrax. The facility serves major carriers, including United Airlines (UA), and offers expanded connectivity for the region.
Skytrax awarded Terminal A its top five-star rating following an extensive audit of facilities, operations, and passenger experience at Newark Liberty (EWR). The honor reflects survey responses collected worldwide between August 2023 and March 2024.
Skytrax selected Terminal A for its strong performance across key touchpoints such as check-in, arrivals, transfers, retail, security, and boarding. Newark Liberty became the second airport managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to receive Skytrax’s highest terminal honor. LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B achieved the same recognition in 2023.
The award was announced during the 2024 Skytrax World Airport Awards in Frankfurt. Senior leaders from the Port Authority were present to accept the recognition, underscoring the significance of the achievement within the global aviation sector.
Terminal A’s design, amenities, and operational standards were repeatedly noted by Skytrax as standout strengths. Leadership from the State of New Jersey and the Port Authority highlighted the terminal as a symbol of the agency’s broader transformation of regional airports and a source of pride for travelers and residents.
Major Investment and Passenger Growth
Terminal A represents a $2.7 billion investment, the largest single project ever undertaken by the Port Authority in New Jersey. The terminal opened in phases throughout 2023, replacing the original fifty-year-old Terminal A.
Within its first year, the new terminal served 15 million passengers. This number far exceeded historical totals from the previous building.
The new one-million-square-foot facility offers modern amenities, advanced technology, and a strong focus on efficient passenger flow.

Passenger Experience and Unique Amenities
The terminal features expanded dining and retail options sourced from both national brands and local businesses.
Travelers benefit from digital wayfinding, modern check-in systems, and spacious gate areas that support smoother boarding.
Amenities include a sensory room designed for neurodivergent passengers, a children’s play zone, local artwork installations, and a lending library curated by a New Jersey student. These additions were cited by both auditors and passengers as key elements that improved the travel experience.
Industry Recognition and Sustainability Milestones
Terminal A has collected several additional awards. UNESCO recognized the project with a Prix Versailles Special Prize for its exterior design.
The terminal also earned LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council for meeting high environmental standards.
The American Society of Civil Engineers in New Jersey named Terminal A the 2023 Project of the Year. The consistent industry recognition highlights the terminal’s architectural quality, operational strengths, and sustainable infrastructure.

Broader Newark Liberty Redevelopment Effort
Terminal A is part of a long-term redevelopment program aiming to modernize Newark Liberty International Airport. Planning is underway to replace the existing AirTrain with a new 2.5-mile automated system operated by Doppelmayr. The project will provide reliable transit for passengers and employees.
The EWR Station Access Project will create improved public transit access for communities in Newark and Elizabeth.
Once completed, travelers will reach New York Penn Station in less than ten minutes via Amtrak and NJ Transit. The Port Authority has committed 160 million dollars to advance the project.
A master planning effort, known as the EWR Vision Plan, will guide development at Newark Liberty through 2065. The plan will address capacity needs, sustainability initiatives, and improved regional access to support long-term economic growth.
