NEW YORK- Atlanta-based carrier Delta Air Lines (DL) has launched a new nonstop route connecting New York–John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York, to Catania–Fontanarossa Airport (CTA), marking its first-ever direct service to Sicily.
The daily Boeing 767-300 flight begins May 21, 2025, and establishes the only nonstop connection between the U.S. and Catania, enhancing access to southern Italy’s cultural and natural treasures.
Delta New York to Sicily
Delta’s new service expands its Italian network to five cities: Rome (FCO), Milan (MXP), Venice (VCE), Naples (NAP), and now Catania (CTA). This strategic addition responds to strong demand from leisure travelers and the large Italian-American community with roots in Sicily.
Catania, located on Sicily’s eastern coast near Mount Etna, offers travelers easy access to historical gems like Taormina, Siracusa, and Noto. The city’s unique blend of ancient architecture, local cuisine, and Mediterranean coastline makes it an increasingly sought-after destination for American tourists.
Delta’s JFK hub offers seamless connections to over 40 destinations across North America, including Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), and Chicago (ORD), allowing passengers from Sicily to travel more efficiently to major U.S. cities.
The new route will be operated using a 216-seat Boeing 767-300, offering a range of cabin classes to meet diverse traveler needs:
- Delta One: Lie-flat seats, chef-curated meals, Taittinger Champagne, Missoni bedding, and amenity kits.
- Delta Premium Select: Enhanced space and comfort, upgraded dining, and priority boarding.
- Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin: Thoughtful service, seat-back entertainment, and curated meal options.
All passengers will enjoy complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi powered by T-Mobile and access to Delta Studio’s 1,000+ hours of entertainment content.
Italian Market Growth
Delta is increasing its U.S.–Italy flight offerings by 15% this summer, with up to 110 weekly flights across the country. This expansion reflects Delta’s long-term commitment to supporting Italy’s inbound tourism economy and connecting Italians to key destinations across the U.S.
For premium travelers, Delta One passengers departing from JFK will have exclusive access to the newly launched Delta One Lounge. Inspired by New York’s energy and designed in collaboration with Missoni, the lounge offers a brasserie, wellness zone, and library lounge.
Delta’s move positions Sicily as a central player in transatlantic travel. As noted by Matteo Curcio, Delta’s Senior Vice President for EMEAI, the new service is expected to boost Sicily’s tourism economy and provide new opportunities for Sicilian travelers.
This route not only reconnects Italian-Americans to their heritage but also simplifies travel to one of Europe’s most scenic islands. Whether for business, tourism, or family connections, Delta’s new JFK–Catania service is a significant step forward in air travel between the U.S. and southern Italy.
