DELHI- Dassault Aviation, a major French aerospace company, has expressed interest in establishing a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility near the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar (DXN).
The announcement came from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on Tuesday.
Dassault Aviation Noida Facility
The proposed facility aims to serve both military and civil aircraft. Dassault also plans to create a Centre of Excellence to provide aviation-related education and apprenticeship opportunities.
“We will evaluate the proposal and have initiated communication with Dassault to assess their land requirements.”
Arun Vir Singh, CEO, YEIDA
Dassault plans to set up the MRO facility within a 1,365-hectare area designated for the second phase of the Noida International Airport (DXN) project. This area has been earmarked for an aviation hub that includes the planned Centre of Excellence.
The French company intends to establish a skill development centre in Uttar Pradesh, working with the ministries of skill development and defence.
“They plan to set up a civil and military MRO. They plan to offer an aeronautical syllabus at the high school, intermediate level and the graduation level, skilled diplomas of two to three years,” Singh explained.
Dassault aims to create a dedicated skill university focused on MRO operations. The trained professionals from this institution would then work at their MRO facility.
Growing Market
According to studies cited by YEIDA officials, India’s MRO industry was valued at $1.7 billion in 2021 and is projected to reach $7 billion by 2030.
The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced specific policies to attract MRO businesses, offering subsidies and streamlined processes for establishing such facilities in the state.
Officials anticipate that the establishment of the MRO facility and the Centre of Excellence will strengthen the regional economy and generate employment opportunities within the aviation sector.
Yeida has requested detailed information from Dassault about their specific land requirements to facilitate the allocation of appropriate space for the project.
The development comes as part of broader initiatives to build an aviation ecosystem around the upcoming Noida International Airport (DXN), positioning the region as a hub for aerospace activities, including manufacturing, maintenance, and training.
Bottom Line
The planned Dassault Aviation facility near Noida International Airport (DXN) represents a significant investment in India’s growing aerospace sector. This development suggests several key trends-
- India is emerging as an important aviation hub in Asia
- Uttar Pradesh is actively courting foreign investment with targeted policies like MRO subsidies
- A strategic push to develop both civil and military aviation capabilities simultaneously
The emphasis on creating a dedicated skill university indicates a recognition of India’s workforce potential but also acknowledges current skills gaps in specialised aviation roles.
This project will likely create a ripple effect in the local economy, generating high-skilled jobs and potentially attracting additional aerospace companies to the region, transforming Jewar from a primarily agricultural area into a technology and aviation centre.
