ORLANDO- Dallas-based Southwest Airlines (WN) is set to launch four new intra-Florida routes from Orlando International Airport (MCO) in August 2025, significantly expanding its domestic network within the state.
Southwest Airlines operates around 4,000 daily flights across North America and a few nearby countries. It serves over 100 domestic and around 14 international destinations.
Southwest Orlando to Florida Routes
The new routes will connect Orlando to Fort Myers (RSW), Miami (MIA), Sarasota (SRQ), and West Palm Beach (PBI), with each route scheduled to operate twice daily, Ishrion Aviation reported.
These additional routes complement Southwest’s existing Orlando to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) service, further strengthening the airline’s presence in Florida’s competitive air travel market.
The expansion comes as Southwest seeks to capture more regional travel demand and provide increased connectivity for passengers across the state.
Frontier Airlines (F9) and Southwest compete directly on these new routes, adding intensity to the market competition. The introduction of these routes marks a strategic move by Southwest to offer more travel options and frequency for Florida-based travelers and tourists.
Hawaii Flights
Southwest Airlines has filed comprehensive service modifications for its Hawaii routes, set to take effect in April and June 2025.
In Honolulu, Southwest will reduce frequencies on several key routes. The Honolulu-Kahului route will decrease from 77 to 55 weekly flights starting April 8, 2025. Similarly, the Honolulu-Kona route will drop from 42 to 34 weekly flights on the same date. The Honolulu-Lihue route will also see a reduction from 42 to 34 weekly flights.
The airline will make selective frequency increases, including expanding the Honolulu-Las Vegas service to 3 daily flights beginning June 5, 2025. Conversely, Honolulu-Oakland and Honolulu-Phoenix routes will be scaled back to 1 daily flight each, effective April 8, 2025.
Kahului routes will experience notable adjustments. The Kahului-Las Vegas route will be reduced to 1 daily flight, while the Kahului-Long Beach service will be completely suspended. The Kahului-Oakland route will also decrease to 1 daily flight. In a positive development, Kahului-San Jose will increase from 2 to 5 weekly flights, starting June 5, 2025.
Kona routes will undergo significant modifications. The Kona-Los Angeles route will resume with 2 weekly flights from June 7 to August 3, 2025, a reduction from 5 weekly flights in 2024. The Kona-Oakland service will be suspended entirely as of March 6, 2025. However, Southwest will reintroduce a daily Kona-Sacramento service using a 737 MAX.
The Kona-Sacramento route will operate with two specific flights. WN3548 will depart Kona at 10:00, arriving in Sacramento at 18:05. The return flight, WN3670, will depart Sacramento at 09:30 and arrive in Kona at 12:00, effective from June 5 to August 4, 2025.
Lihue will see a reduction in Los Angeles service, resuming with 1 daily flight from June 7 to August 3, 2025, compared to 2 daily flights in 2024.
Summer 2025 Summer Additions
Southwest Airlines will introduce 33 overnight flights, including 13 new redeye services, as part of its summer 2025 schedule. The expanded overnight flight network will connect multiple cities across the United States, offering passengers more flexible travel options.
New redeye routes will link major destinations including Honolulu to Los Angeles, Lihue to Las Vegas, and multiple California cities to Baltimore/Washington. Additional overnight services will connect San Francisco to Baltimore/Washington and Nashville, while Seattle will gain redeye routes to Baltimore/Washington, Chicago, Houston, and Nashville.
The airline will launch a new seasonal service between Colorado Springs and Cancun, Mexico, beginning June 14, 2025. Saturday-only flights will provide Colorado residents direct access to the popular beach destination, operating weekly throughout the summer season.
Southwest is also resuming and expanding several seasonal routes to connect travelers with summer vacation destinations. The expanded route network includes direct connections from Austin to Boston, Baltimore/Washington to Portland and Seattle, Dallas to Seattle, and Denver to Myrtle Beach and Savannah.
Cancun flights will operate exclusively on Saturdays, targeting weekend travelers seeking a quick beach getaway. These new routes complement Southwest’s existing network and provide increased travel flexibility for passengers across the United States.
