PARIS- French carrier, Air France (AF) has recently announced that it will be chartering a Boeing 777-200ER from Portugal’s EuroAtlantic Airways (YU) to operate flights between Paris (CDG) and Delhi (DEL).
This decision has raised many questions among travelers as to why the French airline has chosen to go down this route. Let’s delve into the details and discover the reasons behind this unexpected move.
Air France Paris-Delhi Flight
Passengers who have booked flights between Paris and Delhi with Air France will now find themselves on a Boeing 777-200ER operated by EuroAtlantic Airways. This specific aircraft, the CS-TSX, is twenty years old and can accommodate up to 293 passengers.
The seating configuration includes Economy Class, Premium Economy Class, and Business Class, ensuring that passengers have various options based on their preferences and budget.
Ahead of their flights, passengers traveling between Paris and Delhi will receive an email notification informing them that their flight will be operated by EuroAtlantic Airways instead of Air France.
This proactive communication makes passengers aware of the change and understands what to expect during their journey. Additionally, two Air France crew members will be present on board to provide familiar faces and assistance to passengers.
Similar Service but No In-flight Wifi
While flying on the chartered Boeing 777, passengers will still receive the high-quality service they would expect from Air France. Each seat is equipped with a universal electrical outlet and USB port, allowing passengers to charge their devices during the flight.
Passengers will also have access to an individual touch screen with a limited selection of entertainment in both French and English languages.
Although in-flight WiFi will not be available, passengers can enjoy a meal service similar to what is offered on Air France flights.
Passengers who have purchased seat options or other services may need to request refunds directly from Air France’s customer service due to the change in aircraft operator.
However, Air France is committed to ensuring that passengers continue to have a seamless and enjoyable travel experience, despite the operational adjustments.
Paris Olympics 2024 is going to drive more demand and Indian athletes and support staff will have a few options such as Vistara (UK), Air France (AF), and Air India (AI) to choose from.
Possible Reason
According to an Aviation A2Z source, the probable reason for leasing 777 from another carrier is the grounding of some widebody aircraft in the Air France fleet.
A source revealed to us that 3 Airbus A330s are currently in maintenance; they have registration F-GZCI, F-GZCF, and F-GZCO. Furthermore, three A350s are also under maintenance, while one is stored after an incident in Canada.
According to Planespotters.net, as of May 2024, Air France has a fleet of 218 aircraft. Out of these, 189 are in operation while 29 are grounded for various reasons.
We found out that Air France has 63 777s including 17 777-200s, 38 777-300ERs, and 2 777Fs. One 777-200 and 5 777-300ERs are under maintenance.
At last to conclude, by partnering with EuroAtlantic Airways, Air France can provide continued service on this popular route while maintaining the high standards of comfort and quality that passengers have come to expect.
