NEW YORK- Delta Air Lines (DL) is abandoning plans to resume year-round service at this Canadian station this fall, as reported by Adrian Waltz on Platform X. New York LaGuardia (LGA) – Halifax (YHZ) will stay seasonal and end after November.
This station was originally served all year from Detroit (DTW) before it was moved to New York LGA along with a couple of other spokes to LGA and JFK. This year, it resumed at 2x in June with CR9s, and it was meant to get back to service throughout the winter, reported Enilria. Appears not anymore. It may be another casualty of expected extensions of slot waivers at New York airports.
Delta New York to Halifax
In November, Aviation A2Z reported that Delta is set to reintroduce its service between New York LaGuardia (LGA) and Halifax (YHZ), Canada, for the Northern summer of 2024 after Five years of hiatus.
Here is the flight schedule for LGA-YHZ as reported by Aeroroutes:
DL5779 is offered daily, departing from LaGuardia at 10:45 AM and arriving at Halifax at 1:55 PM with an Embraer E175 aircraft.
DL5831, departing from LaGuardia at 7:30 PM and arriving at Halifax at 10:40 PM with an Embraer E175 aircraft, is also available daily.
DL5827 is offered daily, departing from Halifax at 6:00 AM and arriving at LaGuardia at 7:10 AM with an Embraer E175 aircraft.
DL5779, departing from Halifax at 3:00 PM and arriving at LaGuardia at 4:10 PM with an Embraer E175 aircraft, is also available daily.
Further, Delta is Porter’s third U.S. partner after JetBlue (B6) and Alaska Airlines (AS). Unconfirmed how strong it’ll be (whether they introduce codeshare or reciprocal mileage earning), but it should be at least interline connectivity for now.
No resumption date is presently scheduled, but it will presumably return next summer. United left YHZ in 2022. One might think the two moves are connected a few days after partnering with Porter.
Delta’s decision to cut New York to Halifax flights definitely impacts travelers who rely on this route for their journeys.
Should passengers consider other airlines?
With the seasonal service ending after November, passengers must look for alternative options to reach their destination. Delta needs to communicate any changes clearly to avoid inconveniences for their customers.
With United leaving YHZ and Delta making changes to its services, passengers might want to explore other airlines for their travel needs.
Porter Airlines, Delta’s new partner, could be a viable alternative for those flying between New York and Halifax. It’s always a good idea to compare different airlines to find the best options regarding schedule, pricing, and overall experience.
As the airline industry continues to evolve, travelers need to stay informed and make informed decisions when planning their journeys.
