BRISBANE- Australia Post is set to invest more than $50 million in constructing an advanced parcel facility within the Brisbane Airport (BNE) Industrial Park.
Anticipated to launch in early 2026, the innovative StarTrack Premium facility will rank as the second-largest sorting facility in Queensland.
New Facility Near Brisbane Airport
Australia Post emphasizes that this strategic investment will prepare the Australia Post Group for the anticipated e-commerce growth across the South East Queensland region, as the population is forecasted to surpass six million by 2032.
“The 33,600 sqm facility, situated conveniently adjacent to Brisbane Airport, is set to receive a 5-Star Green Star accreditation.
Paul Graham, Chief Executive and Managing Director of Australia Post Group highlighted Queensland’s consistent e-commerce growth, with 82% of Queenslanders engaging in online purchases in the past year.
Graham stated, “This new Parcel Facility will help us respond to that demand and deliver parcels to customers’ doors sooner. The Brisbane North Parcel Facility will not only increase our operational footprint. Still, it will also complement our modernization and regional capacity network program, with 39 network operations sites upgraded in the past 12 months.”
The new facility will be able to process up to 176,000 parcels per day, enhancing team member safety through reduced touch points and manual handling by installing large and small parcel sorters equipped with integrated X-ray screening.
Graham emphasized, “Our delivery team will also benefit from being closer to delivery catchments, reducing their on-road time and ultimately improving services for our customers throughout South East Queensland.”
Michelle Rowland MP, Minister for Communications, praised Australia Post as a vital national institution supporting communities, businesses, and the economy. The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Australia Post provides exceptional service to all Australians.
Australia Post Investment
In the fiscal year 2022-2023, Australia Post delivered over half a billion parcels nationwide, underscoring the critical importance of investing to cater to the escalating demand for high-quality parcel services.
The government’s support for Australia Post’s modernization efforts is crucial in response to evolving consumer preferences. This investment ensures the company is adequately equipped to confront future challenges and fulfill evolving demands.
Gert-Jan de Graaff, CEO of Brisbane Airport, remarked, ‘By granting Australia Post direct airside access, we are streamlining the delivery of time-sensitive parcels, benefiting millions of Queenslanders in the state’s South East and regional areas. Moreover, with Brisbane’s arterial road network conveniently located nearby, we are proud to facilitate projects that facilitate Queensland’s growth and global connectivity.’
Australia Post will also collaborate with the Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry at the Brisbane North Parcel facility as part of its International Gateway Operation.
