GURUGRAM- Indian FSC carrier Air India (AI) is set to expand its ultra-long-haul flight offerings, particularly to U.S. cities, as it grows its aircraft fleet with additional A350s and Boeing 777s, per insider information.
The airline, under the ownership of the Tata Group and amidst operational streamlining, including the proposed merger with Vistara (UK), is considering the launch of non-stop flights from Indian cities to Seattle (SEA), Los Angeles (LAX), and Dallas (DFW), according to knowledgeable sources.
Air India New Flights
Presently, Air India is the sole Indian carrier providing services to the U.S., with existing flights to Washington, New York, Newark, San Francisco, and Chicago.
The sources informed PTI that Air India is plotting the initiation of flights to Seattle, Los Angeles, and Dallas during the winter schedule of 2024-25.
The A350 is anticipated to be utilized for services to Seattle, while the 777 is considered for operations on flights to Los Angeles and Dallas.
These upcoming routes are categorized as ultra-long-haul flights, typically entailing durations exceeding 16 hours.
In addition to the U.S. cities, Air India is contemplating exclusive 777 operations to London Heathrow from both Delhi and Mumbai. This plan will be implemented following the induction of two more aircraft of this type into its fleet.
Currently, flights to London are conducted using Boeing 787 aircraft departing from Delhi and Mumbai.
Bengaluru-London Gatwick Flights
Air India (AI) is launching new flights from Bengaluru (BLR) to London Gatwick (LGW) from April 1, 2024.
The Gurugram-based carrier operates four routes to London Gatwick from Amritasr (ATQ), Ahmedabad (AMD), Goa (GOI), and Kochi (COK).
The airline will deploy its widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with five weekly flights to serve this new BLR-LGW sector.
AI177 operates from Bangalore (BLR) to London Gatwick (LGW) with a schedule of 14:05 to 20:05 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
AI178 departs from London Gatwick (LGW) to Bangalore (BLR) from 21:35 to 11:50+1 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
