LONDON- British Airways (BA), the national carrier of the UK, is pleased to declare its intention to expand the size of its cabin crew bases in China, marking its most extensive international recruitment initiative since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Applications for cabin crew positions in Beijing and Shanghai are now being accepted.
British Airways China Base
In response to the increasing demand for travel between China and Europe, British Airways aims to augment the number of Chinese-speaking cabin crew members. This initiative seeks to ensure that customers have enhanced access to crew members with firsthand knowledge of the language and culture.
Establishing international crew bases enables the airline to deliver a more personalized service to customers, characterized by communication in the local language and thoughtful touches that create a sense of familiarity and comfort.
Calum Laming, the Chief Customer Officer at British Airways, expressed, “Our 15,000 global cabin crew colleagues play a pivotal role in our brand, and their commitment and expertise are crucial to delivering a premium experience for all. We are thrilled to expand our bases in both Beijing and Shanghai. We are seeking individuals who are passionate and bring their unique personalities to work, enhancing our ability to serve our international customers effectively.”
Rigorous Training
Following this recruitment initiative, the number of Mandarin-speaking crew members operating flights between Mainland China and London will increase from two to four. This expansion aims to provide a more personalized service for Chinese customers.
Prospective candidates can anticipate a comprehensive selection process involving online and in-person interviews in both cities, providing local residents with a distinctive opportunity to join the global airline.
All new recruits will undergo a six-week training program at British Airways’ headquarters in London, covering safety and emergency procedures, aviation medicine, and onboard service and delivery.
This training ensures that they meet the airline’s rigorous standards for safety and customer service before taking on their responsibilities in the skies next year.
