DELHI- Anupam Mittal, CEO of Shaadi.com, criticized IndiGo Airlines (6E) for its perceived “inhumane” treatment of passengers, highlighting significant delays on two flights.
Mittal recounted a delay of over 45 minutes on his Indigo flight from Delhi (DEL) to Mumbai (BOM), during which passengers were required to endure the delay on the tarmac without air conditioning, potentially as a cost-cutting measure by the airline.
IndiGo Slammed by Anupam Mittal
Another issue arose on his Mumbai to Delhi flight, facing a delay of over 2 hours, but passengers were not offered ticket refunds.
Expressing his discontent, Mittal queried Indigo, stating, “Kya ho gaya tumko Indigo” and appealed to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to address such practices, deeming them inhumane and advocating for their prohibition.
The post has gathered around 230K views at the time of writing the post. Many users have reacted to it, stating, ‘the lack of competition and IndiGo’s monopoly has led to such poor experience.’
Further, Mr. Mittal praised Tata-owned Vistara (UK) for its service on his return leg. He wrote, “needs competition … that’s all. Came back by Vistara … was impressive”
Indigo has been inundated with a series of complaints recently, encompassing flight delays, insufficient onboard refreshments, and more.
IndiGo Response
Responding to Anupam Mittal’s grievances, the low-cost airline explained that the two-hour delay on the Delhi-Mumbai route was attributed to a medical emergency.
In its statement, the airline expressed, “Mr. Mittal, we extend our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused by the delay of your morning flight from Mumbai, which was inadvertently delayed by 30 minutes due to unforeseen traffic congestion.”
Furthermore, it regretted informing him that the delay on the Delhi-Mumbai route resulted from an unexpected medical emergency on the incoming flight.
Indigo acknowledged the significance of passengers’ time and the potential repercussions of such delays on their travel plans. The airline concluded by expressing genuine regret for any inconvenience caused.
