GURUGRAM- A passenger aboard the IndiGo Airlines (6E) flight 6E221 from Bengaluru (BLR) to Ranchi (IXR) accused the airline of failing to fulfill commitments regarding hotel accommodations following a diversion, leading to forced deboarding.
The individual asserted that promises of lodging were unfulfilled after the flight was rerouted to Kolkata (CCU). IndiGo responded with a statement, stating that they provided meals to all passengers and offered the option of a refund or an alternative flight.
IndiGo Flight Diverted to Kolkata
Passenger Vikram Srivastava utilized platform X to recount an incident involving IndiGo’s flight 6E221 from Bengaluru to Ranchi on 19 Jan 2024.
According to his account, the flight was diverted to Kolkata and canceled, and passengers were allegedly falsely assured hotel accommodations or an alternative flight before being deboarded.
Ground staff reportedly denied most claims, except for a promise of fare return within a week and a rice packet. In a critical tone, Srivastava questioned the permissibility of dumping passengers at a third location under regulations.
He highlighted the plight of a pregnant woman, elderly travelers, and people with financial constraints, accusing IndiGo’s team of being unhelpful and instructing passengers to make their own arrangements at the unexpected third location.
Srivastava criticized IndiGo for being insensitive and having a service deficiency, calling for compensation for all affected passengers. He also shared a video from Kolkata Airport depicting passengers causing a disturbance.
Zero Assistance at Kolkata Airport
He urged penalization of IndiGo for what he deemed a disgraceful and illegal deportation of passengers to a third location with zero assistance.
The video captured passengers vociferously venting their frustration to the airline’s ground staff, seeking information about arrangements for accommodation.
As per PTI reports, an IndiGo official stated, “The flight underwent diversion to Kolkata due to adverse weather conditions at Ranchi. Passengers were provided with the choice of opting for an alternative flight or receiving a refund.”
“Some passengers opted for a different flight, while others chose a refund. Furthermore, all passengers were provided with meals at the Kolkata airport.”
