DALLAS- As North Texas grapples with an intense cold spell and snowfall, Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) is contending with notable disruptions and setbacks at its airports.
At DFW International Airport, 8% of outbound flights and 15% of incoming flights have been canceled, with an additional 20% experiencing delays.
Dallas-Fort Worth Flight Delays
Meanwhile, Dallas Love Field (DAL) is facing a similar situation, with 21% of outgoing flights and 16% of incoming flights being canceled, accompanied by approximately 6% of flights encountering delays in both arrival and departure.
Major airlines are also feeling the impact of these challenging weather conditions. Southwest Airlines (WN), headquartered in Dallas, has had to cancel 16% of its flights.
American Airlines (AA), based in Fort Worth, is not exempt from these disruptions, having canceled 3% of its flights.
To provide relief to affected passengers, American Airlines is offering the option to rebook without incurring change fees. This service can be accessed online or by reaching out to the airline’s reservation service.
FAA Ground Delay and Weather Alerts
Due to severe weather conditions, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has implemented a ground delay of nearly two hours for incoming flights at DFW International Airport.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth is not only issuing warnings for a hard freeze and a winter weather advisory. Still, it is also extending a wind chill advisory into Tuesday.
The ongoing cold spell has shattered a century-old record for January 14 at DFW Airport, surpassing the previous record set in 1917.

This arctic cold front and snowfall have not solely impacted Dallas-Fort Worth but have led to over 3,700 flight delays and cancellations across the United States.
Airlines are grappling with the harsh weather conditions, resulting in numerous cancellations that are affecting travel plans for the week. Forecasts predict continued dangerous wind chills and wintry weather across a significant portion of the country.
