GOA- Over the past year, Manohar International Airport (MIA), developed and operated by GMR Goa International Airport Ltd (GOX), has achieved notable milestones and garnered valuable insights.
With a significant surge in passenger numbers, the introduction of new routes, and the commencement of international services, MIA has expanded its connectivity to encompass 25 domestic and 4 international destinations.
New Goa Airport Celebrates First Year
Domestic carriers such as Indigo, Akasa Air, Vistara, and Spicejet operate at Mopa, while international destinations are served by Air India, Oman Air, Indigo, and Tui.
Having handled over 3 million passengers since its inauguration on January 5, 2023, MIA has emerged as a key player in reshaping Goa’s aviation landscape.
Contrary to historical trends, MIA has maintained a consistent level of air traffic throughout the year, defying the customary decline observed during the summer season.
The network of domestic destinations linked to Goa has more than doubled, expanding to 29 from the initial 14 before MIA commenced operations.
The ongoing Phase 3 Stage 1 expansion, with the goal of accommodating approximately 8 million passengers annually, is on track for completion before the Winter schedule of 2024.
Recognizing MIA’s excellence, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) ranked MIA among the top 15 airports in India in November 2023, underscoring its rapid ascent in the aviation sector.
Enhanced Infrastructure and Facilities
The infrastructure at MIA is truly remarkable, featuring a runway compliant with Code E/F standards, extensive taxiways, and a cutting-edge passenger terminal building.
The airport is strategically connected through a planned multi-modal infrastructure, encompassing a 6-lane expressway and railway access.
MIA goes beyond the conventional airport experience, providing passengers with a unique and vibrant Goan ambiance that engages all five senses.
From carefully curated fragrances to Goan-themed art galleries, specialty cuisine outlets, and live music, MIA ensures a travel experience that is both distinctive and memorable.
Recognized with the Best Passenger Experience Design award by CII in 2023, MIA consistently achieves an outstanding 4.9 satisfaction rating in Airport quality surveys.
MIA has received numerous accolades, including titles such as “Best Sustainable Greenfield Airport,” “Construction Safety,” and “Best Environmental Practices.”
By attaining the IGBC Platinum Rating for the Passenger Terminal, MIA has gained global recognition for its commitment to sustainability. Noteworthy awards include honors at the International Airport Summit in London and the CII India Design Summit.
