As Manchester’s Terminal 2 garners acclaim, the next phase of its transformation is well underway. Over 1 million working hours have been dedicated to the project since its announcement in 2015.
In 2021, the recently launched Terminal 2 welcomed millions of passengers who delighted in its blend of chic, contemporary amenities.
Local favorites such as San Carlo, Archies, and Se7en Brothers, along with globally acclaimed retail stores, added to the overall experience.
In the upcoming phase, Terminal 2 is set to nearly double its current capacity, projecting that by 2025, approximately 80% of the airport’s passengers will avail of its services.
Opportunities created by Terminal 2
The construction phase alone is expected to generate over 500 jobs, with independent analysis indicating the creation of around 16,400 additional jobs by 2040, spurred by the economic activity catalyzed by the expansion.
Prix Versailles acknowledged Terminal 2 among the 2022 cohort, featuring six distinguished airports.
The list includes notable names such as Los Angeles International Airport’s West Gates Terminal, Helsinki Airport’s Terminal 2, and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in China.
The second phase of the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme is making great strides. Construction has kicked off for a new pier at Terminal 2, effectively doubling the number of gates available for aircraft.
Bids are currently active for 27 fresh retail and dining establishments set to be part of the revamped area in Terminal 2, along with an art piece inspired by the iconic chandeliers once adorning Terminal 1.
