SAVANNAH- Gulfstream Aerospace has reported the successful conclusion of the inaugural trans-Atlantic flight entirely powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Executed on November 19, the journey occurred aboard a Gulfstream G600 aircraft, departing from the company’s Savannah headquarters and arriving at Farnborough Airport in England after 6 hours and 56 minutes.

Pratt & Whitney-Powered Mission
Propelled by Pratt & Whitney PW815GA engines, each fueled exclusively by 100% SAF; this undertaking highlights the prospective utilization of renewable fuels in aviation’s future. These fuels offer reduced levels of carbon, sulfur, and aromatics.
Mark Burns, Gulfstream’s President, expressed, ‘Gulfstream is pioneering innovations for a sustainable future. A crucial aspect in achieving long-term decarbonization goals in business aviation is the widespread adoption of SAF instead of traditional fossil-based jet fuel.
The successful culmination of this exceptional flight contributes significantly to advancing business aviation’s overarching sustainability objectives, fostering positive environmental impacts for generations to come.

Flight with Minimal Environmental Impact
The Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) utilized in the flight was supplied by World Energy and distributed by World Fuel Services.
Comprising 100% Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (neat HEFA), the fuel boasts a lifecycle CO2 emissions reduction of at least 70% compared to fossil-based jet fuel, contributing to mitigating aviation’s climate impact.
Moreover, this aromatics-free fuel diminishes local air quality and exceptionally low sulfur content, thereby minimizing non-CO2 environmental impacts.
Anthony Rossi, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Pratt & Whitney Canada, commended Gulfstream for pioneering in the sustainable aviation domain and completing the mission, emphasizing their collaboration to verify engine compatibility with unblended SAF.
Key partners, including Honeywell, Safran, and Eaton, played vital roles in supporting this milestone.
Expressing gratitude to partners, Mark Burns, Gulfstream’s President, highlighted the significance of the milestone flight and ongoing collaboration with the extended SAF community to propel the aviation industry toward 100% SAF usage.
As the inaugural business jet original equipment manufacturer to fly on 100% SAF, Gulfstream reinforces its commitment to sustainability and industry leadership.
