HAMBURG- For the upcoming Dubai Airshow, Lufthansa Technik AG, in collaboration with Boeing Business Jets (BBJ), has revealed comprehensive details about its latest VVIP cabin concept for the BBJ 777-9.
Covering over 340 square meters, the spacious interior is tailored to meet the needs of a new generation of VVIP and head-of-state aircraft.
Lufthansa Technik Unveiled 777-9
The design, CelestialSTAR, blends traditional Middle Eastern cultural influences with a modern twist, emphasizing contemporary purity and typical geometric patterns.
The cabin features a flagship Private Bed- and Bathroom, forming a multifunctional Private Suite for VVIPs, where privacy can be maximized, and luxurious amenities, including the largest rain and massage shower designed for a private jet, await.
Derived from Lufthansa Technik’s EXPLORER concept, the advanced projection technology turns the enclosed cocoon into an immersive wellness and entertainment space, showcasing customized digital content such as a cinema screen, 180° impressions of the next travel destination, or virtual works of art.
When seclusion is not a top priority, the cocoon can open up to the rest of the cabin through rotating and sliding lamellae, providing access to exercise or dressing rooms on the side or simply allowing more daylight into the VVIP area. This design choice maximizes the feeling of space, taking advantage of the BBJ 777-9’s impressive cabin width.
Alexis Fecteau, Managing Director of Marketing at Boeing Business Jets, commented,
“The thoughtful design of the BBJ 777-9 interior created by Lufthansa Technik illustrates the key features of our newest, largest, and most capable BBJ on the market. The elegant interior elements maximize personal comfort for passengers onboard the BBJ 777-9, which is capable of flying over 22 hours and connecting any two cities in the world, non-stop.”
The Work&Balance area adjacent to the cocoon is also designed to be multifunctional, making full use of the cabin width.
The two flexibly rotating and sliding seats allow guests to gather around the large VVIP desk for audiences, turn and move their seats to the side divans for conversations with additional guests, and expand the surface area of the tables in front of the divans as needed with a cleverly integrated swivel mechanism.
Another design highlight in this room is the numerous trapezoidal wall niches, which can be closed with an invisible mechanism if required, seamlessly disappearing into the linear wall structure.
Celestial Lounge
Next to the Private Suite, the Celestial Lounge serves as the aircraft’s lobby entrance. It has an integrated bar for refreshments and stylish seating arrangements and sets the perfect first impression.
It provides an ideal setting for welcoming high-ranking guests or preparing them for meetings in the Work & Balance area. Intermediate doors shield guests aesthetically and acoustically, creating a pleasant and spacious atmosphere.
The Celestial Lounge seamlessly blends into the adjoining conference dining area when the corridors open. It is also multifunctional as a majlis, the traditional Middle Eastern gathering and meeting room.
The eleven individual seats can be easily rotated from a dining or conference position toward the center table or outward for side conversations. State-of-the-art communication and conference technology, including retractable monitors on the table, connect this room and the entire aircraft with the world.
Notably, the large window shades with electrochromatic dimming, integrated into the oriental-inspired design of CelestialSTAR, are eye-catching. Their three-dimensional structure and strategic use of indirect lighting continue the design principle of the side walls in a functional way, providing a spacious impression even when closed and without daylight.
Hassan Gasim, Sales Director Middle East VIP & Special Aircraft Services at Lufthansa Technik, commented,
“The BBJ 777-9 is the largest aircraft type newly available on the market and thus simply predestined for its role as the successor to the BBJ 747 as the most popular aircraft for heads of state, many of which are among our loyal customers for decades. Through our close cooperation with Boeing Business Jets and Lufthansa’s role as the launch customer for the new type, we were able to build up extensive technical expertise at an early stage. Therefore, we are pleased to present our valued customers at the Dubai Airshow with this groundbreaking interior that maximizes the BBJ 777-9’s size.”
Showcase at Dubai Airshow
Designed primarily for customers from Middle Eastern royal families who often travel globally with large delegations, the CelestialSTAR concept caters to this by providing spacious accommodations in the second half of the cabin.
This includes the advisory staff and other personnel. The six Deluxe Suites, adapted specifically for this VVIP cabin design, are intended for high-ranking ministers or state guests.
Additionally, the Executive Area offers 32 seats resembling state-of-the-art business class, and further back, the Entourage Area provides a premium economy cabin.
The unique aspect of the CelestialSTAR cabin design is that it is directly derived from the BBJ 777-9 design data provided by Boeing Business Jets. This ensures technical feasibility from the beginning, as the design is based on one hundred percent accurate dimensions.
Lufthansa Technik will showcase all the details of CelestialSTAR at the Dubai Airshow from November 13 to 17, including a film and a virtual tour of the cabin at booth #1120.
