AUCKLAND- Air New Zealand (NZ) has announced Emilia Wickstead, a renowned Kiwi fashion designer, as their chosen partner to create the airline’s new uniform.

Air New Zealand Uniform Designer
Leanne Geraghty, Air New Zealand’s Chief Customer and Sales Officer, mentioned that the selection panel was impressed by Emilia’s concepts and designs.
Over 40 New Zealand designers expressed interest in the project, and the decision was challenging due to the depth and diversity of New Zealand fashion.
However, Emilia’s exceptional designs, creativity, uniqueness, and understanding of the need for a functional and comfortable uniform for Air New Zealand’s employees set her apart as the ideal partner.
“It’s truly an honor to be chosen as the designer for Air New Zealand’s new uniform. I’m thrilled to be part of this project, and I’m looking forward to creating a modern yet timeless uniform that our employees can wear with pride. Air New Zealand is known for its exceptional service and reputation, and I want our people to be dressed by the very best. Joining the Air New Zealand whānau is an exciting journey for me,” expressed Emilia Wickstead.
“This project is a genuine passion for me, and it deepens my connection with my homeland, Aotearoa, as well as the communities and places that hold a special place in my heart.”
“My approach to designing the uniform is deeply rooted in respect for New Zealand’s cultural heritage, primarily focusing on people. I firmly believe clothing can have a transformative, uplifting, and empowering effect. I aspire that the new uniforms will instill a sense of pride and purpose in Air New Zealand’s remarkable and world-class team.”

Unveiling in 2024
Emilia Wickstead’s designs are known for their timeless quality, characterized by simple yet effective details that offer a fresh, modern, and effortless look.
These uniforms must carry forward this essence, complemented by creative innovations and twists, resulting in a distinctive uniform that will continue to stand out for years.
The selection of the designer came after a competitive pitch involving several prominent New Zealand designers. They were tasked with considering essential criteria, such as sustainability, functionality, safety, and te ao Māori.
The next phase of the project involves close collaboration between Air New Zealand and Emilia Wickstead to refine the designs, conduct onboard trials, and gather feedback from uniform wearers.
The final designs will be unveiled in late 2024, and the Emilia Wickstead Air New Zealand uniforms will be progressively introduced to over 5,000 Air New Zealand cabin crew, front-of-house ground staff, and pilots in the coming years.
