CHESTER- Today, on October 17, 2023, CFM unveiled an Improved High-Pressure Turbine (HPT) blade intended to boost the longevity of its CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B engines.
This innovative blade design draws upon extensive engine field data, implementing enhancements such as heightened wall thickness, optimized dovetail loading, and refined manufacturing tolerances.
Ensuring Uninterrupted Flight with Familiar and Trusted OEM Components
This blade preserves the fuel efficiency gains originally realized by introducing CFM56 Tech Insertion blade configurations in 2007.
Jacey Welsh, the Executive Vice President of CFM56 at GE Aerospace, stated,
“The enhanced CFM56-5B/-7B HPT blades are tailored to ensure our customers continue their flights using familiar and dependable OEM components.
Many of our clients are transitioning their narrowbody fleets, and the new CFM56 HPT blade offers them the opportunity to prolong their engine operational life, optimizing cost efficiency and elevating the residual value of their engines.
Moreover, we’re presenting appealing upgrade choices to customers currently utilizing older CFM56 configurations.”
The fresh HPT blades are manufactured at the cutting-edge GE Aerospace facility in Greenville, South Carolina. This facility, employing 250 individuals, has been crafting HPT blades for various commercial and military engines for over a decade.
On average, the site dispatches 1,000 components daily, totaling 5,000 parts weekly and an impressive 250,000 parts annually.
Prioritizing Inventory Growth with the Introduction of New HPT Blades
Jérôme Morhet, the Executive Vice President of Safran Aircraft Engines, remarked,
“With over 1.2 billion engine flight hours accumulated, the CFM56 engine remains a reliable workhorse for our customers, operating tirelessly around the clock, every day of the year. We maintain our commitment to enhancing product and support for this extensive fleet.
Introducing the new HPT blade underscores our dedication to bolstering inventory resources to assist our customers during their future shop visits.”
CFM engines undergo comprehensive design, testing, and certification at the engine operating system level, ensuring optimal system and product performance. Notably, the CFM56-5B and -7B models boast an exceptional dispatch reliability rate of 99.98%.
