BENGALURU- Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bangalore, has earned recognition from aviation analytics firm Cirium as the world’s most punctual airport for the past three years.
With consistently impressive on-time departure rates of 87.51 percent in July, 89.66 percent in August, and 88.51 percent in September, KIA has solidified its position as the foremost airport for global punctuality.
Bangalore International Airport: Most Punctual in the World
Cirium’s latest monthly report for September 2023 highlighted KIA’s punctuality, noting that “88.51 percent of Kempegowda International Airport’s flights took off on time.” This accomplishment underscores KIA’s dedicated commitment to efficiency and punctuality.
Among the top five airports globally for punctuality in the past three months, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) stood out alongside Salt Lake City International Airport, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and El Dorado International Airport.
During September, KIA excelled in on-time departures and achieved an impressive on-time arrival rate of 79.46%. With its extensive network comprising 88 routes and partnerships with 35 airlines, KIA serves as a crucial air travel hub.
As India’s third busiest airport, Kempegowda International Airport is experiencing remarkable growth, having accommodated approximately 31.91 million passengers during the fiscal year 2022-2023.
Additionally, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) secured the third position in the large airport category for September, marking a significant achievement for the Indian aviation sector.

Inspired by Bengaluru’s reputation as the ‘Garden City,’ the terminal at Kempegowda International Airport showcases a design that captures the essence of its surroundings.
According to Airport Technology, the terminal’s initial phase spans four levels and encompasses a built-up area of 255,661m². Subsequently, Passengers embark on a unique journey through over 10,000m² of green walls, hanging gardens, and outdoor spaces.
One of the notable features is the expansive indoor garden adorned with rammed-earth walls, waterfalls, and hanging planted bells. Subsequently, the lush area is an entry point to the bustling retail section.
The forest belt, a three-storeyed outdoor space nestled between the main terminal and boarding gates, offers a refreshing experience for travelers, complemented by its connection to the shopping area.
This natural oasis is visible from various indoor spaces and adds to the terminal’s ambiance. An open call for proposals was announced for a monumental sculpture to be situated within the forest belt.
The terminal boasts walls made of brick and floors adorned with natural terrazzo. It has an engineered bamboo ceiling, creating a contemporary and timeless aesthetic.
In addition, an expansive outdoor garden, situated around a lagoon, serves as a plant nursery for maintenance purposes and is connected to Terminal 1 and the airport hotel through elevated walkways.
The lagoon collects rainwater, which can be reused for various processes, such as cooling and irrigation. Furthermore, Advanced technology and cutting-edge tools are integrated into the terminal to enhance airport operations.
