LONDON- A British Airways (BA) pilot, identified as Mike Beaton, who is married and hails from Devon, was found to have consumed cocaine from a woman’s bare breasts before attempting to operate a fully occupied flight bound for the UK.
Mike Beaton, who was a First Officer, openly discussed his involvement in a drug and alcohol-fueled escapade with a stewardess friend, acknowledging his actions with the words, “I’ve been a very naughty boy.”
British Airways Pilot Snorts Drugs
Appalled by this revelation, the concerned friend reported his behavior to the airline authorities. Consequently, the airline canceled the scheduled flight from Johannesburg to London, which was a 12-hour journey, incurring an estimated cost of £100,000. Mike Beaton was then subjected to a drug test and subsequently terminated from his position.
Following the incident, the father of one child faced immediate suspension and was transported back home as a passenger on the following day. Upon arrival at Heathrow, he underwent a drug test, which yielded a positive result, leading to his termination from British Airways.
The incident involving excessive alcohol consumption and inappropriate behavior came to light when Beaton was in Johannesburg during his scheduled downtime before co-piloting a return flight to London.
During this period, his night out took a chaotic turn, which he subsequently recounted in explicit detail through text messages to a stewardess colleague, who was also a close friend.
In his messages, Beaton disclosed that he had encountered two local men, a Welsh female holidaymaker and a “young Spanish woman,” at a nightclub in the city.
Pilot’s Amateurish Behaviour
The pilot proudly recounted: “We all made our way back to the hotel bar for ‘one last drink before bedtime.’
“Welsh and one of these gentlemen were getting along famously, although she had informed him that I was her boyfriend.
“After a few drinks at the bar and some passionate kissing, somehow, we all ended up at this guy’s apartment.
“Welsh had decided that I should be her boyfriend, and Spanish had connected with one of the local guys, engaging in intimate moments on their sofa.”
He enthusiastically shared how the “ladies were dancing without their tops,” and he eventually decided to join in, shedding his own clothes when Class A drugs were brought into the picture.
The former pilot continued with a sense of triumph: “Then, a discussion arose about whose chest would be the ideal spot for a cocaine ‘bump.'”
He proudly concluded, “And that’s how I found myself snorting cocaine off a woman’s chest in Johannesburg.”
Beaton later admitted that the night had taken its toll, confessing, “I stayed the night with Welsh, had an intimate encounter that lasted a while (I suppose the cocaine played a role), and then I was so exhausted that I couldn’t even lift my head until after 2 in the afternoon.”
Airlines Employee Comments
A source within the airline expressed astonishment yesterday over the conduct of their former employee, who, along with his wife Jagoda, operates a hot tub retreat in Devon.
According to The Sun’s report, they stated: “British Airways is left in utter disbelief regarding the actions of this ex-employee. Misbehavior during layovers between flights is not uncommon, but this particular incident is truly astounding.
“A First Officer undergoes rigorous training and is well-versed in aviation laws, primarily responsible for ensuring passenger safety.”
“The conduct exhibited here starkly contrasts the expectations held for British Airways pilots, leaving the airline in a state of shock. In essence, this pilot’s actions have led to his own downfall.”
The notion of sharing details about his alcohol and drug consumption with a stewardess during the break between flights is exceptionally ill-advised.
Upon his return to the UK, enraged management adhered to established protocols and subjected the pilot to a drug test. Although traces of alcohol had dissipated from his system, the presence of a Class A drug was detected. Consequently, he will never hold a pilot’s position again.
This incident is the latest in a series of stories involving BA crew members on raucous nights out.
