MIAMI- Fort Worth-based American Airlines (AA) is preparing to inaugurate the nonstop connection between Miami (MIA) and Orange County (SNA), with ticket sales scheduled for Monday and the first flight service slated for January 2024.
Commencing January 8th, the airline will utilize its Boeing 737-8 aircraft for daily flights, further expanding its list of new routes, including Miami to Portland (PDX) from November 5th and Sacramento (SMF) beginning December 20th.
American Airlines Miami to Orange County Flights
With this announcement, American Airlines will oversee operations for three out of the five transcontinental routes originating from the airport, joining its existing SNA to New York and Charlotte routes.
Delta Air Lines (DL) manages the remaining two transcontinental services, which flies to Atlanta and United Airlines, serving Newark.
With American Airlines preparing to initiate operations in Portland, Sacramento, and now Orange County, the airline is reinforcing its dedication to serving the coastal regions. Juan Carlos Liscano, American Vice President of MIA Hub Operations, stated:
“As Miami’s Hometown Airline, we take pride in offering our customers excellent international and domestic service options, with flights connecting coast to coast. Expanding our network from MIA is a significant commitment that reflects our long-term dedication to our more than 14,500 team members, our local patrons, and our hub.”
Further, the service is scheduled to commence on January 8th, departing daily from Miami International Airport at 08:30 and arriving at John Wayne Airport in Orange County at 11:30. The return service will take off at 12:30, with an expected arrival back in Miami at 20:20.
Other Carriers Route
American Airlines won’t be the sole carrier launching new services from the airport. Alaska Airlines (AS) is also planning to initiate year-round service to Tucson, starting on December 14th, and a seasonal service to Bozeman, Montana, commencing on the same day.
There are a few existing trans-border and international options for those seeking more exotic destinations from John Wayne Airport. These include Air Canada’s (AC) direct service to Vancouver, WestJet’s (WS) connections to Vancouver and Calgary, and Southwest Airlines’ (WN) routes to Puerto Vallarta.
John Wayne Airport (SNA) is one of the six airports in the Los Angeles area, alongside Burbank (BUR), Ontario (ONT), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Long Beach (LGB), and San Bernardino (SBD).
