FORT WORTH- In the schedule update over the weekend of August 19, 2023, American Airlines (AA) introduced modifications to its long-haul operations for the summer of 2024.
The initial update includes the addition of new European routes that were recently announced by the airline on August 17, 2023.
American Airlines Routes Changes
Starting from March 31, 2024, the previously planned daily Boeing 787-8 service between Chicago O’Hare and Dublin has been canceled.
However, beginning on June 5, 2024, American Airlines will resume its daily Boeing 787-8 service between Chicago O’Hare and Venice Marco Polo. This route had been suspended since October 2019. The flight schedule for this service is as follows:
- AA042 departing ORD at 20:20, arriving at VCE at 12:20 the next day.
- AA043 departing VCE at 14:50, arriving at ORD at 18:30.
Furthermore, commencing on June 5, 2024, American Airlines will launch a new route between Dallas/Ft. Worth and Barcelona. This route will operate daily using a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft:
- AA192 departing DFW at 18:50, arriving at BCN at 11:15 the following day.
- AA193 departing BCN at 13:10, arriving at DFW at 17:00.
New Flights
Starting from March 31, 2024, American Airlines has made several changes to its flight operations:
- The 777-200ER aircraft will replace the 787-9 on the Dallas/Ft. Worth – Dublin route, maintaining the daily frequency.
- From March 31 to June 4, 2024, on the Dallas/Ft. Worth – London Heathrow route, one of the four daily flights (AA020/021),, will use the 777-200ER instead of the -300ER.
- Commencing from June 5, 2024, the second daily seasonal service on the Dallas/Ft. Worth – Rome Fiumicino route will be reinstated, operated using the 787-8.
- Effective March 30, 2024, the service on the Dallas/Ft. Worth – Santiago de Chile route will be discontinued during the NS24 season. This route was previously filed as a daily 787-8 service.
- On the Dallas/Ft. Worth – Tokyo Haneda route, the daily service using the 787-8 aircraft will be maintained, replacing the previously planned -9.
- Similarly, the daily service on the Dallas/Ft. Worth – Tokyo Narita route using the 787-8 aircraft will also be maintained, replacing the previously planned -9.
- The Los Angeles – Tokyo Haneda route will maintain its two daily 787-8 services instead of the previously filed -9.
- The seasonal service between New York JFK and Athens will resume on March 31, 2024, instead of May 7, 2024. This route will operate with a daily 777-200ER aircraft.
- In the New York JFK – London Heathrow route, the 777-300ER aircraft will be replaced by the 777-200ER on specific flights:
- AA142/141 from March 29, 2024
- AA106/101 from March 31 to June 4, 2024.

Other Changes
Starting from June 5, 2024, American Airlines has made the following adjustments to its flight operations:
- The seasonal service between Philadelphia and Athens will resume on June 5, 2024, instead of May 5, 2024. The route will operate with a daily 787-8 aircraft.
- From June 6, 2024, a new route will be introduced between Philadelphia and Copenhagen, with a daily service using the 787-9 aircraft:
- AA744 departing PHL at 21:10 and arriving in CPH at 11:10 the next day
- AA745 departing CPH at 14:00 and arriving in PHL at 16:40
- Commencing from June 5, 2024, a new daily service will be launched between Philadelphia and Naples, operated with the 787-8 aircraft:
- AA780 departing PHL at 19:05 and arriving in NAP at 10:00 the next day
- AA781 departing NAP at 12:35 and arriving in PHL at 16:45
- Starting from May 6, 2024, a new daily service will be introduced between Philadelphia and Nice, utilizing the 787-9 aircraft:
- AA746 departing PHL at 21:00 and arriving in NCE at 11:00 the next day
- AA747 departing NCE at 13:00 and arriving in PHL at 16:35
- The seasonal service between Philadelphia and Venice Marco Polo will resume on April 4, 2024, instead of May 6, 2024, with a daily 787-8 aircraft.
- Commencing on March 30, 2024, the daily service between Seattle and London Heathrow will be reinstated using the 777-200ER aircraft.
