DELHI- The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has published the July 2023 domestic traffic figures, and IndiGo (6E) and Air India (AI) are now close to having around 90% market share in Indian Aviation Industry.
The number of passengers transported by domestic airlines from January to July 2023 was 881.94 lakhs, compared to 669.54 lakhs during the same period in the previous year, indicating a yearly growth of 31.72% and a monthly growth of 24.68%.
Air India IndiGo Approx 90% Share
In July 2023, IndiGo carried more than 76 lakh passengers, which eats up 63.4 percent of the pie.
While Tata-owned Airlines, including Air India (AI) and Air India Express (IX), Vistara (UK), and AirAsia India (I5), carried close to 31 lakh passengers. This combined has a market share of 25.8 percent.
These two airline groups carried around 1 crore passengers in July 2023 by adding up the total numbers. They combined have a market share of 89.2.

- Vistara: 8.4%
- AirAsia India: 7.5%
- Akasa Air: 5.2%
- SpiceJet: 4.2%
Here are the On-Time Performance (OTP) statistics for different airlines:
- IndiGo: 86.8%
- Vistara: 83.6%
- AirAsia India: 83.2%
- Akasa Air: 80.6%
- Air India: 70.2%
- SpiceJet: 65.4%
Despite carrying 76 lakh passengers, the IndiGo still beats everyone in OTP.
In July 2023, scheduled domestic airlines received a total of 349 complaints related to passengers. Subsequently, the rate of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried for the month of July 2023 was approximately 0.29.
Further, the scheduled domestic airlines had an overall cancellation rate of 0.75%.
