NEW YORK- Flag carrier of Qatar and leading Gulf carrier, Qatar Airways (QR), will increase its flight frequency on the existing New York (JFK)– Doha (DOH) route.
The 29-year-old airline currently serves this route twice a day. In total, it operates 14X weekly flights. Further, the airline has a codeshare with renowned US carrier American Airlines (AA), which also operates one daily flight on this route.
Qatar Airways New York-Doha Flights
The airline has two daily flights, QR702 and QR704, while it places its codeshare code QR9000. The middle east carrier deploys its Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 777-300ER in this sector.
But this is going to change soon as Qatar Airways plans to add one more daily flight to its existing 2X daily. So now, it will have three daily flights starting October 29, 2023, reports Ishrion Aviation.
At the same time, American Airlines (AA) will drop this route the next day the QR will add a third flight.
Further, to add more capacity amid rising travel demands, Qatar Airways will deploy all its Boeing 777-300ER for 3X daily flights.
Both Qatar Airways and American Airlines have one of the largest codeshare in the world.
New Opportunities with Codeshare
In a remarkable turn of events, American Airlines (AA) and Qatar Airways (QR), once fierce rivals in the aviation industry, have now entered into the largest codeshare agreement ever witnessed in the airline business.
This collaboration allows them to sell seats on each other’s flights and market the services under their own flight numbers. The strategic partnership has proven highly successful, benefiting both carriers and their passengers.
Under the American-Qatar alliance, airlines can expand their reach to more destinations than they could on their own while also sharing revenue generated from ticket sales on partner flights.
This beneficial venture has led to an impressive 18% of passengers arriving in the US on QR flights from Doha (DOH) opting to connect to AA services.
Similarly, since the commencement of American Airlines’ direct flights from New York (JFK) to DOH last June, over 175,000 travelers have connected from AA to QR flights, reports PYOK.
One of the major advantages of this codeshare agreement is the accessibility it offers to previously underserved destinations.
For instance, passengers connecting from American Airlines flights have found seamless travel options to popular cities like Lahore, Dhaka, Kathmandu, and Islamabad. This is where American Airlines does not currently operate its own flights.
This newfound convenience has translated to approximately 530 passengers per day taking advantage of the codeshare agreement to fly with Qatar Airways.
