DELHI- In preparation for the G20 summit to be held in Delhi, the civil aviation ministry of India (MoCA) is actively engaging in discussions with stakeholders to address the issue of relocating grounded aircraft from Delhi Airport (DEL) to nearby airports.
This measure is being taken to ensure sufficient parking space for the special aircraft that will be carrying the heads-of-state of the G20 countries and invited nations during the summit.
Clearing Delhi Airport’s Grounded Aircraft
Given the significance of the G20 summit and the participation of dignitaries from around the world in crucial discussions on global economic matters, the need for ample parking space for these special aircraft has become a priority.
To meet this demand, the civil aviation ministry is proactively working on resolving the parking space concerns at Delhi Airport.
Both security agencies and the MoCA have highlighted the urgency of this matter to ensure smooth operations and logistics during the summit.
According to a senior government official, the issue has been communicated to various relevant parties, including the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and other aviation stakeholders.
Another government official stated that around 70-80 aircraft are parked at Delhi airport for engine replacements, technical problems, and bankruptcy cases.
Among the grounded aircraft are those belonging to Go First (G8), SpiceJet (SG), Jet Airways (9W), and other private jets.
DIAL Response Awaited
The aviation security agency has instructed both the ministry and airline operators to accelerate the relocation process of the grounded planes to alternate locations as quickly as possible.
The final confirmation regarding the availability of sufficient parking slots for the special aircraft now depends on Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).
We are currently awaiting the response from Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), as its role will be crucial in ensuring a seamless and successful G20 summit in the nation’s capital.
