From June 5, 2023, IndiGo Airlines will launch the eagerly anticipated direct flight services from Bhubaneswar Airport to Singapore, Bangkok, and Dubai Airport.
Sources claim that the low-cost IndiGo airline operator has given Biju Patnaik Overseas Airport (BPIA) the timetable for its twice-weekly flights to two overseas locations.

Airport director Prasanna Pradhan told, “We have received the itinerary from IndiGo Airline.” He stated, “We will provide all necessary logistical support for seamless operation.”
As of May 15, an Airbus-320 operated by IndiGo operated flights from the state capital to Dubai three times a week. These flights are anticipated to significantly increase tourism in Odisha and open gateways to Southeast Asian nations.
On December 27, the Odisha cabinet approved the offer of IndiGo Airlines. Which had expressed interest in running direct flights to Dubai, Singapore, and Bangkok in response to a request for a quote from the state government.

Three times a week, including on weekends, a 186-seater flight will be flown from BPIA. Further, according to the bid proposal, the state government will pay for the flight’s operation. Subsequently, the state government will keep the money made from ticket sales in its place.
To support the operation of these flights, the government has set out Rs 120 crore to break even within a year.
Notably, Air Asia had begun offering flights to Bangkok in December 2018. However, the service was abruptly discontinued in September 2019 without providing any justification. Further, these flights operated thrice a week and had just 55–85% of their tickets reserved.
