An issue with an American Airlines flight prompted Miami-Dade Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to go to the tarmac.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, there was an emergency that required the plane to land.
Some of the passengers reported feeling ill and requiring transportation to the hospital.
Fumes inside American Airlines flight cabin
As a result of gases inside the cabin, a jet never left Miami International Airport on Wednesday night, according to officials.
According to MIA spokesperson Greg Chin, passengers on American Airlines flight 338 destined for Barbados were evacuated and bussed back to the airport to catch another flight.
According to American Airlines representatives, the odours were a “chemical stench” brought on by the items in a passenger’s carry-on luggage.
They noted that hotel accommodations were made available to all passengers and that the flight was rescheduled for 9 a.m.
It is unknown how many passengers were on board and whether any injuries were recorded.
On the runway, a number of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units could be seen. By 11 p.m., the site was cleaned up.
