The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have seized 14 kg of heroin at Bengaluru Airport. The value of the seized drugs is close to ₹100 crore.
The 45-year-old man, reportedly from Telangana was caught while he was supposed to fly to New Delhi. He arrived in Bengaluru from Addis Ababa and was caught during transit in Bengaluru.
The accused had gone to Addis Ababa in order to find a job. It seems like he has been offered the job to smuggle drugs by international drug dealers.
It was found that the Telangana-based man was offered money alongside the flight tickets and accommodation in a star hotel. Moreover, he was assigned to hand over the drugs to a client in Delhi. Soon after arriving in Bengaluru, he was supposed to take a flight to the capital and hand it over to the client.
Multiple Similar Cases
Even though this is one of the largest smugglings in recent months, multiple other cases were also reported. This is the eighth case cracked by the DRI since the 15th of July this year.
According to the DRI officials, they have seized drugs worth ₹250 crores approximately in these eight cases. The authority has been looking forward to minimizing such smuggling for a long and is focusing on tight security checks.
