On approach to Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, pilots of an Air France Boeing 777 encountered issues with the aircraft’s controls.
On April 5, 2022, the Boeing 777-300ER registration F-GSQJ flew flight AF011 from New York-JFK to Paris-CDG.
When the pilots reported an issue to the air traffic controller, the aeroplane was on final approach to runway 26L. The plane appeared to be unresponsive to the crew's commands and was drifting left wildly.
The crew can be heard fighting and yelling “Stop, stop” while alerts play in the flight deck, according to ATC recordings posted online.
At roughly 1,200 feet, the pilots regained control of the plane (370 meters). They eventually landed on runway 27R without incident after performing a go-around.
The French Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) has launched an investigation into the occurrence, which is being treated as a serious incident. – Air France
For analysis, the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were recovered.
