PUNE- India’s largest carrier, IndiGo Airlines (6E) has postponed the launch of its new flight between Pune (PNQ) and Bangkok (BKK), Thailand from October 27 to November 22, almost by a month.
This will be the third International non-stop route from Pune Airport. The airline will operate three weekly flights, targeting business and leisure travelers.
IndiGo Pune to Bangkok Flight
Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke attributes the schedule modification to passenger acquisition strategy, citing previous route failures due to low occupancy. The revised schedule aims to prevent similar service suspensions experienced by other carriers.
- The Pune-Bangkok flight will depart at 11:10 PM on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving at 4:45 AM.
- Return flights from Bangkok operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, departing at 1:15 AM and landing at 4:15 AM.
Pune Airport currently maintains two international routes: SpiceJet (SG) Dubai (DXB) service and Vistara Airlines (UK) Singapore (SIN) connection launched in December 2023.
Historical data shows SpiceJet’s previous Bangkok route operated briefly from October 2013 to March 2014, with an unsuccessful revival attempt in 2022.
Domestic Network Enhancements
IndiGo will launch direct Pune-Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) flights starting October 27, strengthening its domestic network. The airline simultaneously increases flight frequencies on existing routes connecting Pune to Bhopal, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Indore, and Raipur.
The Bangkok route expansion increases IndiGo’s Thailand service to over 85 weekly flights from eight Indian cities. Vinay Malhotra, IndiGo’s Head of Global Sales, confirms this development strengthens Pune’s position as a strategic aviation hub.
IndiGo maintains a focus on customer convenience through its official website and mobile app booking platforms. These route expansions advance the airline’s market presence in both domestic and international sectors.
Suspending Abu Dhabi-Trichy Route
IndiGo announces suspension of all Tiruchy (TRZ)-Abu Dhabi (AUH) flights effective October 25, 2024, terminating the service just two months after its August 11 launch. The airline currently operates four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The suspension affects Tiruchy exclusively among IndiGo’s 13 Indian cities serving Abu Dhabi, including major hubs Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and Lucknow. Passenger groups and travel industry representatives advocate for service continuation, citing increasing route demand.
The route’s termination contrasts with competitor Air India Express’s service expansion, which tripled its frequency since the Covid-19 pandemic. Aviation experts criticize IndiGo’s decision, highlighting passenger disruption concerns.
