The new promoters of cash-strapped Jet Airways, the Jalan-Kalrock group, said on Thursday that “restart efforts” are moving smoothly and that regular services are likely to resume soon.
“We’re working closely with the Government of India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (“DGCA”) on the clearance process and timetables for proving flight, after which Jet Airways’ Air Operator Certificate (“AOC”) would be re-validated. The resumption of scheduled services is expected to happen soon after that “In a statement, the team said.
The Jalan-Kalrock resolution consortium announced in September last year that the airline would begin short-haul international flights in the third-fourth quarter of 2022. Restarting an airline, according to the team, is a difficult task.
The team stated that restarting an airline is a difficult task that must be carried out properly and in collaboration with regulatory agencies, and that they are well into the process.
“The timeline depicts the average time it takes for an AOC to complete. However, we anticipate completing the proving flight and obtaining the AOC considerably ahead of the scheduled dates ” according to the group.
It should be emphasised, however, that the prolongation of the schedule has nothing to do with where aircraft are registered and deregistered, or the cost of leasing, according to the team.
“Furthermore, there is no regulatory requirement for re-registration of an aircraft outside of India.”
“We’re working with a number of aircraft lessors and manufacturers to identify aircraft that will join the Jet Airways fleet in the next three to five years,” the Jet team said.
Jet Airways was forced to close in April 2019 due to mounting losses and a debt of over Rs 8,000 crore.
In the Jet Airways insolvency resolution process, a partnership led by London-based Kalrock Capital and UAE-based entrepreneur Murari Lal Jalan emerged as successful bidders.
