SINGAPORE- Singapore Airlines (SQ) has announced a major S$2 billion (US$1.57 billion) investment in its next-generation aircraft cabins, introducing First Class suites with double beds, Business Class seats with sliding privacy doors, and redesigned Premium Economy and Economy Class products. The upgrade, announced on November 6, 2026, represents one of the airline’s most significant investments in its long-haul passenger experience.
The new cabins will progressively enter service from the second half of 2027 aboard 41 retrofitted Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range (ULR) aircraft, alongside the airline’s incoming Boeing 777-9 fleet. The programme will introduce new First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy products, while bringing First Class accommodation to the A350-900ULR fleet for the first time.

First Class Introduces Double Beds
The most distinctive feature of the new First Class product is the ability to combine two centre seats into a double bed. Singapore Airlines said the arrangement would create the largest double bed in commercial aviation, measuring 80 inches (203 cm) long and 60 inches (152 cm) wide.
The configuration will be available on the Boeing 777-9 and Airbus A350-900ULR. Passengers travelling together can retract the divider between the centre seats, converting the space into a shared sleeping area or a two-seat sofa for relaxing during the flight.
Passengers travelling alone will also have a fully enclosed personal space. Each First Class seat can transform into a fully flat bed measuring 80 inches long and 30 inches wide, with curved sliding doors providing additional privacy.
The new seats will feature Poltrona Frau leather upholstery, electronically adjustable side wings, lumbar support, and adjustable armrests and leg rests. Singapore Airlines will also introduce new bedding developed with German specialist Paradies, including a mattress topper, cotton bed linen, a duvet and different pillow options.
The airline has incorporated dining and technology features into the redesigned suites. A large table will allow two passengers to dine face-to-face, while also serving as a workspace equipped with wireless charging, USB-C ports and universal power outlets.
Each First Class suite will have a 32-inch 4K touchscreen, spatial audio and Bang & Olufsen wireless headphones. Passengers can also connect compatible personal Bluetooth headphones.
The introduction of smart cabin controls integrated with myKrisWorld will allow travellers to save preferred seat positions and lighting settings for future journeys. The Boeing 777-9 will have six First Class seats, while the A350-900ULR will accommodate four, with direct aisle access for every passenger.

Business Class Gets Doors
Business Class will receive a substantial redesign, with sliding privacy doors becoming one of the most important additions. The new seats will also feature full-grain leather upholstery and electronically adjustable dividers between selected centre seats.
For passengers travelling together, selected centre seats can be configured as companion beds. This arrangement will provide a more open sleeping space, addressing the demand for greater flexibility among couples and other travellers flying together.
The fully flat Business Class beds will measure 79 inches (201 cm) long and up to 24 inches (61 cm) wide. Singapore Airlines has also redesigned the tables so that they stow away at an angle, creating a larger footwell and giving passengers additional room to reposition their feet while resting.
Other improvements include adjustable lumbar and leg support, personal storage compartments, wireless charging and USB-C connectivity. A padded bedsheet incorporating memory foam will provide additional comfort during long-haul flights.
Business Class passengers will receive entertainment screens measuring up to 22 inches, depending on the aircraft. These displays will support 4K resolution, while the smart cabin controls will allow travellers to save preferred seating positions through myKrisWorld.
The new Business Class seats will be installed across the Boeing 777-9, A350-900 long-haul and A350-900ULR fleets. This means the redesigned product will eventually extend beyond the airline’s newest aircraft to its existing long-haul operations.

Economy And Premium Upgrades
Singapore Airlines is also introducing redesigned Premium Economy and Economy Class seats on the Boeing 777-9. The Premium Economy cabin will feature 36 seats arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration, with a 40-inch seat pitch.
The new Premium Economy seats will include deeper recline, improved cushioning, premium leather upholstery, and four-way adjustable headrests. Adjustable leg rests and footrests will provide additional support, while personal storage compartments will give passengers space for smaller belongings.
A dedicated cocktail tray will allow passengers to place drinks and snacks without unfolding the main dining table. Other additions include adjustable reading lights, USB-C charging ports and holders for hands-free viewing on personal devices.
The entertainment screens will measure up to 16 inches and offer 4K resolution, spatial audio and Bluetooth headphone connectivity.

Economy Class will receive ergonomic cushioning, wool-blend upholstery and four-way adjustable headrests. A redesigned reclining mechanism and improved seat structure are intended to provide additional knee and shin clearance, addressing an important comfort consideration on longer journeys.
The Boeing 777-9 will have 204 Economy Class seats in a 3-4-3 configuration, with a seat pitch ranging from 31 to 32 inches. Each seat will feature an entertainment screen measuring up to 13 inches, alongside USB-C charging ports, a cupholder, a coat hook and additional storage space.
One notable addition is a secondary display that will provide real-time flight information, including Wi-Fi connectivity status and lavatory availability. Passengers will therefore be able to check essential flight details without leaving their entertainment screens.
The cabin investment also forms part of a broader programme to improve the passenger experience beyond seating. Singapore Airlines is introducing an upgraded KrisWorld entertainment system with more than 2,500 entertainment options, high-resolution displays, spatial audio and Bluetooth connectivity.
The airline plans to introduce Starlink high-speed internet progressively from early 2027 on its Airbus A380, A350-900 long-haul and A350-900ULR aircraft. It is also refreshing its dining programme with more than 100 new and updated dishes, expanded beverage selections and custom-designed Christofle serviceware for premium cabins.
New amenity kits and sleepwear will accompany the cabin changes. Business Class passengers will receive sleeper suits for the first time, while Suites and First Class customers will receive new cotton sleeper suits and amenity kits featuring Sisley products. Business Class kits will include products from Byredo.
On the ground, SIA has invested more than S$130 million in renovating and expanding its SilverKris lounges worldwide, including facilities at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), Channel News Asia reported.

Bottom Line
Despite revealing extensive details about the new products, the airline has not yet announced which routes will receive the upgraded cabins first.
The rollout is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027, with the Boeing 777-9 and retrofitted A350 aircraft forming the foundation of its next-generation long-haul passenger experience.
The programme reflects a broader effort by Singapore Airlines to strengthen its position in the international premium travel market.
Rather than limiting the investment to First and Business Class, the airline is also improving the experience for passengers travelling in its lower-fare cabins.
