GLASGOW- An easyJet (U2) flight from Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport (SSH) to Glasgow Airport (GLA) landed safely on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after at least eight passengers reportedly became ill during the journey.
Flight U23116, operated by an Airbus A320neo registered as G-UZEG, encountered a medical situation while flying through Dutch airspace. The crew alerted easyJet’s Flight Operations Center after multiple passengers experienced vomiting and nausea, raising concerns about a possible norovirus outbreak. However, the cause of the illnesses has not been confirmed.

easyJet Flight Crew Reports Multiple Passengers Ill Mid-Flight
The incident occurred during the overnight journey from Egypt to Scotland. The aircraft departed Sharm el-Sheikh late on Wednesday, October 21, and continued toward Glasgow as passengers began experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms.
According to reports, the situation prompted the flight crew to contact easyJet’s Flight Operations Center while the aircraft was travelling through Dutch airspace. The crew reported that at least eight passengers were vomiting and raised the possibility of norovirus affecting people on board.
The number of passengers experiencing symptoms prompted the crew to alert the airline’s operations team and prepare for assistance after landing. However, available reports did not establish whether the passengers shared a common source of illness or whether norovirus was responsible, Airlive reported.

Airbus A320neo Continues to Glasgow Airport
Despite the medical situation in the cabin, the Airbus A320neo continued its planned journey toward the United Kingdom rather than diverting to another airport.
Aircraft-tracking data recorded the flight arriving at Glasgow Airport at approximately 2:42 a.m. British Summer Time on October 22. The initial report placed the landing at around 2:45 a.m. BST. The aircraft completed the flight safely.
According to the report, airport operations and medical personnel received advance information about the situation so they could prepare to assist affected passengers after arrival.
The available reports did not provide further details about the passengers’ medical conditions following the landing. They also did not establish whether any passengers required hospital treatment.

Suspected Norovirus Outbreak Remains Unconfirmed
Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes acute gastroenteritis. Common symptoms include vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea and stomach cramps. The virus can spread through contaminated food or water, contact with an infected person, or contaminated surfaces.
Airline cabins bring passengers together in an enclosed space, making hygiene and infection-control procedures important when several people develop similar symptoms during a flight. However, multiple passengers experiencing vomiting does not, by itself, confirm a norovirus outbreak.
In the easyJet incident, the crew reportedly raised norovirus as a possible explanation for the symptoms. No confirmed diagnosis was included in the available reports published on October 28, 2026. Those reports also stated that easyJet had not issued an official public statement about the incident at that time.
The incident highlights the need for flight crews to communicate medical concerns promptly to airline operations teams and coordinate with airport personnel when multiple passengers become ill. The flight reached Glasgow safely, but the precise cause of the passengers’ symptoms remains unknown.
