DOHA— Qatar Airways (QR) has expanded its international network with eight notable route additions and resumptions during 2026.
The Doha-based carrier is strengthening links across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, the Middle East and South America as it rebuilds and grows its global schedule.
The airline’s network expansion includes four new destinations and four returning markets, with services ranging from short-haul Airbus A320 operations to long-haul Boeing 777-200LR and Airbus A350-900 flights.
Qatar Airways connects these markets through Hamad International Airport (DOH), which remains the carrier’s main global hub.

Qatar Airways 8 Route Additions in 2026
The eight routes cover a broad mix of new and returning services. Hail (HAS) was added in January with three weekly Airbus A320ceo flights, while Port Sudan (PZU) followed in July with three weekly services using the same aircraft.
Alexandria (ALY) also joined the expanded schedule in September, initially receiving two weekly Airbus A320ceo flights.
The service is scheduled to increase to daily operations from July 2027, giving passengers more frequent access to Qatar Airways’ Doha hub.
In the Americas, Philadelphia (PHL) returned to the network in August with a daily Airbus A350-900 service.
The route replaced the previous operation by American Airlines and restored a direct Qatar Airways connection between Doha and Pennsylvania.
The most significant upcoming addition is the airline’s South American operation. Bogotá (BOG) and Caracas (CCS) are scheduled to form a triangular service from November, operating twice weekly with the Boeing 777-200LR, Simple Flying reported.

Returning Markets To Service
Qatar Airways also restored services to Tokyo Haneda (HND) and Helsinki (HEL) in July. Tokyo Haneda operates daily with an Airbus A350-900 or Boeing 777-200LR, complementing the airline’s existing Tokyo Narita service.
Helsinki returned with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operations, initially starting with four weekly flights before increasing to a daily schedule.
The route gives passengers another direct connection between Finland and the Gulf through Doha.
The three returning international markets show how Qatar Airways is restoring parts of its network while also introducing completely new destinations.
Philadelphia, Tokyo Haneda and Helsinki had previously been served by the airline before being suspended or transferred to partner carriers.

Winter Network Expansion Plans
The eight routes are part of a much wider expansion planned for the 2026/27 winter season.
Qatar Airways is scheduled to serve more than 170 destinations and operate nearly 1,800 weekly frequencies during December, reinforcing Doha’s position as a major international connecting hub.
The airline is also increasing frequencies on established routes. London Heathrow (LHR) will rise from 49 to 56 weekly flights, while Frankfurt (FRA) will increase from 18 to 21 weekly services.
In North America, Montréal (YUL) will move from five to seven weekly flights from October 25, representing a 40% increase in seat capacity.
Qatar Airways is therefore combining new routes, returning markets and higher frequencies to expand its network rather than relying on individual route launches alone.
The strategy gives passengers more options across multiple regions while allowing Qatar Airways to strengthen connections through Doha.
With the eight highlighted routes forming part of a larger network expansion, 2026 has become an important year for the airline’s international growth.
