DHAKA— Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG) has placed a firm order for 10 Airbus aircraft, comprising four A350-900 widebody jets and six A321neo aircraft. The order marks a major step in the Bangladeshi flag carrier’s fleet modernisation strategy.
The airline, based at Dhaka (DAC), plans to use the new aircraft to expand its international network, including services to North America, Europe and the Middle East.

Biman Bangladesh Expands Fleet With New Airbus Aircraft
The 10-aircraft order combines the long-range Airbus A350-900 with the smaller and highly efficient A321neo. The mixed fleet will give Biman Bangladesh Airlines greater flexibility across long-haul, regional and medium-haul markets.
The A350-900 will provide the range needed for long-distance international operations, while the A321neo will support regional and medium-haul routes with lower operating costs. Together, the aircraft are designed to improve fleet efficiency while supporting Biman’s international expansion plans.
The airline operates its main hub from Dhaka (DAC), positioning the new aircraft to connect Bangladesh with important overseas markets. Biman also expects the fleet expansion to support its ambition to serve North America and strengthen connectivity with Europe and the Middle East.

Bangladesh Aviation Market Supports Expansion
Bangladesh’s population of around 200 million provides a substantial domestic market and a growing base for international air travel. The country is also benefiting from demographic and economic growth that is supporting demand across the aviation sector.
Biman Bangladesh also serves a large overseas diaspora. Around 15 million Bangladeshis live outside the country, with significant communities across the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
This international population creates sustained demand for passenger services between Bangladesh and major overseas markets. Growing foreign trade could also increase demand for commercial air cargo, creating additional opportunities for the airline’s expanded fleet.
Rumee A. Hossain, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Biman Bangladesh Airlines, described the fleet expansion as a measured response to Bangladesh’s growing travel market and global diaspora.
He said the country’s resilient economy and expanding travel demand support Biman’s planned fleet growth.

Airbus A350 Supports Long-Haul Network
The Airbus A350-900 will become the larger long-haul component of Biman’s new aircraft order. Airbus designed the A350 family for intercontinental operations, with the A350 capable of flying up to 9,700 nautical miles, or approximately 18,000 kilometres, non-stop.
The aircraft combines advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials and latest-generation Rolls-Royce engines to improve operating efficiency. Airbus states that the A350 provides a 25% advantage in fuel burn, operating costs and COâ‚‚ emissions compared with previous-generation competitor aircraft.
The A350 also features Airbus’ Airspace cabin, which is designed to improve passenger and crew comfort through modern cabin technologies and features.
For Biman, the aircraft’s long range could provide greater flexibility as the airline develops services to distant international markets.

A321neo Adds Regional Flexibility
The six Airbus A321neo aircraft will complement the A350-900s by covering regional and medium-haul markets.
The A321neo is the largest member of the Airbus A320neo Family and offers extended range alongside strong operating economics. Its size and range allow airlines to operate routes that may not require a widebody aircraft while maintaining greater capacity than smaller single-aisle models.
Airbus states that the A321neo delivers at least 20% lower fuel consumption and COâ‚‚ emissions compared with previous-generation aircraft.
For Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the A321neo can provide additional flexibility for international routes across nearby and medium-distance markets while supporting lower operating costs.

Biman Targets International Network Growth
The combination of four A350-900s and six A321neos gives Biman a fleet strategy covering different stages of its international network.
The A350-900s are suited to long-haul markets, while the A321neos can support regional and medium-haul services. This combination allows the airline to match aircraft capacity and range more closely with individual routes.
Biman’s planned expansion comes as Bangladesh continues to generate international travel demand through its growing economy, overseas population and foreign trade activity.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, said the A350 and A321neo provide Biman with a fleet combination suited to its international expansion.
He said the aircraft would provide the airline with the efficiency, range and versatility required to connect Bangladesh with key global markets while improving the passenger experience.

Fleet Modernisation Marks Major Biman Milestone
The firm order for 10 Airbus aircraft represents a significant development in Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ fleet modernisation programme.
The four A350-900s will strengthen the airline’s long-haul capabilities, while the six A321neos will provide additional capacity and efficiency on regional and medium-haul routes.
With both aircraft types, Biman will have greater flexibility to develop its international network and respond to passenger and cargo demand across key global markets.
