RIYADH- Riyadh Air (RX) has shared photos of its first production Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registered HZ-RXAK, after the aircraft was painted in the airline’s indigo and lavender livery.
The livery was originally unveiled at King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh in June 2023 and forms part of Riyadh Air’s distinctive brand identity.

Riyadh Air Showcases First Production 787-9 in Indigo
On October 4, 2026, Riyadh Air published a series of photos of HZ-RXAK on social media and tagged Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer.
In the post, translated by X from Arabic, the airline described the aircraft as its “Nile Blue Boeing 787 Dreamliner” after the completion of its painting. The Aerotime reported the latest aircraft development.
HZ-RXAK is the first production Boeing 787-9 highlighted by Riyadh Air in the indigo livery. The aircraft provides a production example of a design the airline first presented publicly in 2023.
According to ch-aviation data cited in the original report, Riyadh Air had received eight Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Those eight Dreamliners were painted in the airline’s alternative white, indigo and lavender colors rather than the statement indigo design shown on HZ-RXAK.
Riyadh Air unveiled its indigo and lavender livery at King Khalid International Airport in June 2023. The airline said its brand identity was inspired by the warmth and hospitality of the Kingdom and the vibrant lavender colors that carpet the Saudi desert in spring.
Riyadh Air described the livery as one of a series of designs intended to continue pushing boundaries in aviation. It also said the design incorporates visual references to the Kingdom and Riyadh, including sweeping curves inspired by Arabic script and the global campaign tagline “The Future Takes Flight.”
The combination of indigo and lavender gives the production Boeing 787-9 a visual identity that connects Riyadh Air’s aircraft with the themes used throughout its wider brand design.’

PriestmanGoode Created Two Livery Designs
Design consultancy PriestmanGoode was assigned to create two elegant and bold livery designs for Riyadh Air. The brief was intended to position the new airline at the forefront of the next generation of carriers.
PriestmanGoode refined Riyadh Air’s color palette to five primary colors, including lavender, Sunset Peach and Indigo. The consultancy said the first fleet livery was designed as a statement indigo scheme inspired by the changing colors of the sky from dusk until dawn.
The second design uses a custom iridescent paint color. PriestmanGoode said the treatment was developed to help the Riyadh Air brand stand out while maintaining the elegance and boldness established by the first indigo concept.

Indigo Livery Previously Appeared on Boeing 787
The production aircraft is not the first Boeing 787 to appear in Riyadh Air’s indigo livery.
Between June 2023 and October 2024, a promotional Boeing 787 carrying the Riyadh Air design was displayed at aviation events, including the 54th Paris Air Show. That aircraft carried registration N8572C during its time as a Boeing promotional aircraft.
N8572C was later delivered to TAAG Angola Airlines in 2025 and received the registration D2-TEQ. Aircraft records identify D2-TEQ as the former N8572C and show that the aircraft had carried the Riyadh Air promotional paint scheme from June 2023 to October 2024.
The earlier promotional aircraft and HZ-RXAK are therefore separate aircraft. HZ-RXAK is the production Boeing 787-9 featured in Riyadh Air’s latest indigo livery images.

What the Indigo Livery Represents
Riyadh Air’s indigo design combines the airline’s modern visual identity with references to Saudi culture and the natural landscape.
Its main design elements include the indigo and lavender color combination, Arabic calligraphy-inspired curves and colors associated with the Saudi landscape and changing skies.
The design also forms part of Riyadh Air’s broader approach to aircraft branding. By introducing both a statement indigo livery and a separate iridescent concept, the airline and PriestmanGoode developed two distinct visual treatments for the carrier’s fleet.
The completion of HZ-RXAK’s indigo paint scheme brings the livery concept introduced in 2023 onto a production Boeing 787-9, marking a new stage in the development of Riyadh Air’s aircraft identity.
