DUBAI- SpiceJet (SG) former pilot Smit Machchhar was reportedly the captain of a flydubai (FZ) Boeing 737 MAX 8 involved in an in-flight cockpit confrontation.
The flight, operating from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to Ben Gurion Airport (TLV), diverted to Tabuk Regional Airport (TUU) after the aircraft transmitted emergency signals.

What Happened on Flydubai Flight FZ1073
Flight FZ1073 was operating from Dubai to Tel Aviv with approximately 174 passengers when an incident involving the two pilots reportedly occurred more than two hours after departure.
According to information cited in the source material, Machchhar, an Indian national and former SpiceJet pilot, was injured during an alleged confrontation with the co-pilot. He reportedly regained control of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and diverted the aircraft to Tabuk in northwestern Saudi Arabia.
Passenger accounts described shouting and a struggle in the cockpit. Some passengers and crew members reportedly intervened during the incident. Both pilots were injured and were taken to hospital after the aircraft landed safely.

Emergency Signals Raised Hijacking Concerns
Flight-tracking information showed the aircraft descending from approximately 34,000 feet to around 16,000 feet during the incident.
The aircraft initially transmitted the 7700 emergency code, which indicates a general emergency. It subsequently transmitted the 7500 code, which is associated with unlawful interference and can indicate a hijacking or security-related incident.
The 7500 transmission led to concerns about a possible hijacking. Israeli authorities reportedly scrambled fighter aircraft while the situation was developing.

Former SpiceJet Pilot Joined Flydubai in 2022
Machchhar reportedly joined Flydubai in 2022 after spending about a decade flying for SpiceJet.
His reported background became a key detail in the incident because he was serving as captain of the aircraft when the cockpit confrontation occurred.
The source material does not establish that his previous employment at SpiceJet had any connection to the incident.

Aircraft Landed Safely in Tabuk
The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737 MAX 8 registered as A6-FKF. After the emergency and diversion, it landed safely at Tabuk with the passengers and crew onboard.
Flydubai confirmed that an incident occurred on the Dubai-Tel Aviv service and said the passengers and crew were safe. The airline also arranged another aircraft to transport the stranded passengers onward to Israel.
The airline did not confirm the nationalities of the pilots in its reported statement.

Authorities Investigate Cockpit Confrontation
Saudi and Israeli authorities are investigating the incident. Flydubai is also conducting an internal investigation.
Reports identified the co-pilot as an Omani national and alleged that he attempted to take control of the aircraft. However, the precise sequence of events, the cause of the confrontation, and the motive have not been conclusively established.
Further findings from the official investigations are expected to clarify what occurred inside the cockpit and why the aircraft transmitted the 7700 and 7500 emergency codes.
