LONDON- British Airways (BA) is preparing to introduce a major refresh of its long-haul First Class experience from October 1, bringing new serviceware, bedding, pyjamas, amenities and dining choices to passengers.
The changes will be rolled out from the airline’s main hub at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) after several years of development.
The upgrade targets the First Class “soft product,” covering the elements passengers interact with during a flight rather than the aircraft seat itself.
British Airways last introduced a major First Class soft-product update in 2019, when it partnered with several British luxury brands for tableware, glassware, loungewear and amenities.

British Airways New First Class Service Upgrades
British Airways is expected to introduce bespoke items across its First Class cabin, with the updated design understood to place greater emphasis on the airline’s blue colour scheme.
The precise details of the new brand partnerships have not been publicly disclosed, but the programme is set to cover serviceware, glassware, bedding, pyjamas and amenity products.
The airline’s existing First Class offering already includes a fully flat bed, luxury bedding, Temperley London loungewear and an Elemis skincare collection. Its dining service uses British-designed crockery, cutlery and glassware from William Edwards, Studio William and Dartington.
The traditional British Afternoon Tea service will remain part of the experience, while the refreshed menu is expected to add new grill dishes and superfood salads.
British Airways is also preparing updated service standards focused on a more personalised approach while retaining a distinctly British character.

A380 First Suite Major Upgrades
The soft-product changes arrive as British Airways prepares a separate transformation of its Airbus A380 fleet. The first aircraft, registered G-XLEC, travelled from Heathrow to Manila in August for an extensive cabin refurbishment as the airline begins upgrading its 12-aircraft A380 fleet.
The refurbished A380s will receive a new First Class suite featuring a 36.5-inch-wide seat, a 79-inch fully flat bed and a 32-inch 4K entertainment screen.
The suite also includes a curved privacy wall and closing door, while centre suites can be opened to create a shared space for passengers travelling together.
British Airways plans to introduce the new First suite on its A380s before extending the product to its future Boeing 777-9 aircraft. The airline has 24 Boeing 777-9 aircraft on order, with deliveries expected from 2027 onward, according to UK Civil Aviation Authority information.

Competition Drives Upgrade Across Airlines
The First Class refresh gives British Airways another way to modernise its premium offering while the airline prepares for a major fleet and cabin transition.
The new soft product can reach First Class passengers across the existing long-haul network even though the new A380 suite will initially remain limited to aircraft undergoing the dedicated refurbishment programme.
The approach also continues British Airways’ established use of British designers and manufacturers in its premium cabin.
Its 2019 First Class update introduced William Edwards bone china, Studio William cutlery, Dartington glassware, Temperley London loungewear and improved bedding, creating the foundation for the current First Class experience.
With the latest changes scheduled to begin on October 1, British Airways is positioning its First Class soft product for the next stage of its long-haul cabin transformation, ahead of the arrival of its new-generation First suites on the A380 and Boeing 777-9, PYOK reported.
