COLOGNE- Lufthansa (LH) will introduce its first Starlink-powered high-speed onboard internet on an Airbus A320neo beginning August 19, marking the start of a fleet-wide connectivity upgrade. The inaugural service will deliver internet speeds that, in many cases, exceed those available in homes and offices.
The rollout will eventually cover approximately 850 aircraft across the Lufthansa Group, including airlines operating from major hubs such as Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Munich Airport (MUC), Zurich Airport (ZRH), and Vienna Airport (VIE). The new service will also be available free of charge for eligible loyalty program members.

Lufthansa Begins Starlink WiFi Rollout Across Its Fleet
Lufthansa Group has announced the beginning of a major onboard connectivity transformation with the launch of its new Starlink-powered WiFi service. The first aircraft to receive the system is a Lufthansa Airbus A320neo, with the inaugural passenger flight scheduled for August 19.
The project represents one of the largest inflight connectivity upgrades undertaken by any airline group in Europe. Working with satellite internet provider Starlink, Lufthansa Group plans to equip around 850 aircraft across its network by 2029.
The new system uses a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, allowing passengers to access significantly faster internet than traditional satellite-based inflight WiFi systems. The improved bandwidth supports demanding online activities such as HD video streaming, cloud-based work applications, web browsing, and other data-intensive services during flight.
According to Lufthansa Group, the introduction of Starlink connectivity forms part of its broader investment strategy covering new aircraft, cabin improvements, digital services, and enhancements throughout the passenger journey.

Fleet-wide Expansion Across Lufthansa Group Airlines
The connectivity upgrade will extend well beyond Lufthansa’s own fleet.
Airlines preparing to receive the new Starlink-powered internet include:
- Lufthansa (LH)
- SWISS (LX)
- Austrian Airlines (OS)
- Brussels Airlines (SN)
- ITA Airways (AZ)
- Edelweiss (WK)
- Discover Airlines (4Y)
- Air Dolomiti (EN)
- Lufthansa City Airlines (VL)
- Eurowings (EW)
Once deployment is complete, Lufthansa Group expects to become the largest airline group in Europe operating Starlink-based inflight internet across its aircraft.
The airline group stated that the rollout schedule is ambitious, allowing passengers across multiple brands to benefit from a consistent onboard connectivity experience within the next several years.

Free Internet for Miles & More Members
One of the major customer benefits announced alongside the launch is complimentary access for registered loyalty members.
The Starlink-powered WiFi service will be available free of charge to all Miles & More customers and Travel ID users regardless of cabin class. This means passengers traveling in Economy, Premium Economy, Business Class, or First Class will have access to the same high-speed internet service once their aircraft is equipped.
Lufthansa believes internet connectivity has become a core element of the modern premium travel experience rather than an optional service.
Chief Commercial Officer Dieter Vranckx said the airline group views high-speed internet as an essential onboard product available across every airline and every travel class. He added that the company intends to equip its entire fleet of approximately 850 aircraft with the technology by 2029, making connectivity a standard part of the Lufthansa Group experience.

Passenger Guidelines for Using the New Service
Passengers using the new WiFi platform will be required to follow onboard usage guidelines designed to maintain a comfortable cabin environment.
The terms of use were developed using customer survey feedback and include several important requirements.
Passengers are expected to:
- Wear headphones when watching videos or listening to audio.
- Avoid making voice calls or video calls during the flight.
- Refrain from broadcasting live video streams from onboard the aircraft.
- Accept the platform’s terms and conditions before using the internet service.
These measures are intended to balance expanded internet capabilities with passenger comfort throughout the cabin.

Mastercard Continues as Connectivity Partner
The Lufthansa Group WiFi portal will continue its long-standing partnership with Mastercard, which previously supported the airline’s FlyNet connectivity platform.
Mastercard will sponsor the new internet portal as Lufthansa transitions from its previous inflight connectivity system to the Starlink-powered service.
The collaboration reflects Lufthansa Group’s strategy of combining advanced satellite technology with established commercial partnerships to deliver an improved passenger experience.

A New Standard for European Airline Connectivity
The introduction of Starlink technology marks a significant milestone in Lufthansa Group’s digital transformation strategy.
By combining low Earth orbit satellite technology with a group-wide deployment plan, Lufthansa aims to provide passengers with fast, reliable internet access across hundreds of aircraft over the coming years.
With the first commercial flight scheduled for August 19, the rollout signals the beginning of a long-term effort to make high-speed connectivity a standard feature across one of Europe’s largest airline groups.
